Interesting note from Wikipedia...
Vinci is involved in construction of the first 43 km of the Moscow-Saint Petersburg motorway through the valuable Khimki Forest. This construction has raised many protests in Russia, 75% of the local community – about 208,000 citizens of Khimki – oppose the project.[37] There have also been numerous human rights abuses surrounding the project, with journalists and activists arrested and assaulted.[38][39]
Vinci attracted protests in relation to its project to build an airport in Notre-Dame-des-Landes near Nantes, expected to become the third largest airport in France and being built on a site of 2,000 hectares of woodland and marsh with an acknowledged social and ecological value. This project was financed through a public-private partnership with profits going to Vinci. In November 2012, protests took place to prevent the expulsion of villagers and farmers who were struggling to protect their environment who were receiving support at both a national and international level.[40]
Vinci's Norwest Holst and Taylor Woodrow were revealed as subscribers to the UK's Consulting Association, exposed in 2009 for operating an illegal construction industry blacklist. Vinci was later one of eight businesses involved in the 2014 launch of the Construction Workers Compensation Scheme,[41] condemned as a "PR stunt" by the GMB union, and described by the Scottish Affairs Committee as "an act of bad faith".[42]

Well done to club for this link up and getting the car park sorted.

Just like to know exactly who we’re dealing with, that’s all. Even if it's just to fill some holes? Last time work was done on the car park I'm pretty sure is was people doing community service so can't be much worse

We will have to be careful Swampy and his mates don’t decide to target the Deva as their next encampment in protest at these works!

Vinci doing a much needed job for free. What they do get up to in Russia I really couldn't care less and has little relevance to them filling in some pot holes for no cost for a non league football club.
They are doing an excellent job with the Ellesmere Port hub too, clearly a well thought of construction company.

Finds a negative in almost every situation. How long have we all suffered with the car park?? And now a lot of it has been repaired properly but still some will whinge!

Some slightly harsh reactions here I think. There's an argument that as part of our community ethos we should be aware of the ethics of the suppliers we use, especially if we call them "our friends". Saying that, we're just talking about a few local workers here by the looks of things. It would be churlish to turn away free work because of a few negative stories about the wider company in other parts of the world. We probably shouldn't sell Coca-Cola in the ground if you're going to go that far!

Maybe we should, instead of thanking Vinci for repairing the car park, have said that although we accept their gift of tarmac we find it impossible to call them friends due to our community ethos.

This is a football related site not Corbynland. There was absolutely nothing political in my post. I’ve noticed that you have a habit of using that word as a cop-out when someone says something you don’t like. Who cares about people’s avatars? The site admin has an avatar of a fictional character from Red Dwarf, for example. It’s very very obvious that the problem you have is with me, not with the issue of non-football related avatars.

However, I do accept the second half of your post, we can’t be too picky and it’s difficult because there seems to be bad ethical practice in the vast majority of corporations these days.

A rather silly and churlish thread, imho. It would be nice just to say an unambiguous 'thanks' to a local supplier, rather than immediately reach for a section from wikipedia (hardly a 100% accurate source anyway) that supports a particular agenda. Very few multi-national organisations have an entirely spotless reputation, should you wish to look hard enough for gossip.
And I agree - FOP - it's time to change your avatar. It's hard to know what point you're making, and it's just grating and getting peoples' back up. If there was a joke or point, the moment has passed.

Would just like to echo the majority of the sensible comments on here by saying a huge thank you to VINCI for their terrific gesture. We already operate on a shoestring as it is so we would’ve had to fork out a fortune to repair our car park, (when we could’ve kept that money aside for more important things), but once again this is brilliant news that will save us a lot of money. The car park has been like the landing of the zombie apocalypse for years so I’m looking forward to seeing the improvements when we’re allowed back, and aside from that it will also benefit our wheelchair users, cyclists, etc. from having unprecedented accidents as well which is also very important. Well done to VINCI and our board 👏.

Nope, just feel as a community cooperative club with an ethos to match I think we sometimes need to look a little closely at who we associate with, that’s all. Again, I accept Lobster’s point - it was perhaps a little extreme when it’s just a local branch and a couple of hard-working labourers. Obviously I thank them for their services.

How very noble of you. Vinci Uk also have a Charitable Trust that donates to many charities including the NHS charity Above and Beyond, that wasn’t mentioned in Wikipedia though. Like you say we need to look a bit more closely at who we associate with.

Anybody would think that they only filled the potholes as a backdoor to demolish the Deva Stadium and build an international airport on the site!

Called in at club to pick up pin badge yesterday. I only drove as far as the office but was surprised to see only one tar mac patch. the rest was same as before. Maybe more done behind Harry mac but I didn't get that far.

I ran past the ground recently and also noticed that apart from one patch of newly laid tarmac, the pot holes were still there.

Have to agree with upsanddowns. Just been down to pay some overdue sponsor money and it looks like they done behind the Harry Mac and not in front of main East Stand. Office was closed so will have to go back tomorrow when I revisit the dump
