Living proof you can con your way to a big club Not convinced heâs good enough for that level, but how has he âconnedâ his way in there? The league table shows Challinor is no mug and he certainly didnât have to sign him. Heâs made comments about Elliott offering much-needed pace, so presumably has a role in mind for him. Whether he can deliver remains to be seen.

Good luck to him. I actually thought he had something and in the right set-up could be a goal machine. Not necessarily what we need but I suspect will go on to do quite well at a higher level.

To be fair to these Conference clubs, they are all gambling on promotion. All going to end in tears for a few.

He's only signed on a short term deal until end of the season. Minimum risk signing.
They can only sign free agents. So not many out there worth going for. He's got genuine pace and he'll be fit and ready to go. He's an option off the bench for little cost. Especially if he's different from what they have.

I'm not hearing about too much clubs on the brink. How are those clubs in the National League continuing to function as a business without fans and without the 2nd allocation of grant funding? I get that there's the Goats and Boreham Wood's of this world who are bankrolled, but how are more modest clubs like Alty and Halifax doing it? Don't get me wrong, I don't want to see clubs go to the wall, but I'm pleasantly surprised that so many clubs have made it this far without fans, EFL included. Does anyone know how the Welsh Premier clubs are surviving? I've not heard any grumbling about grants at any point during the pandemic from their member clubs, was it just that the Welsh FA looked after them? I find it galling that I can watch Penybont v Haverfordwest on S4C yet our league can't play - just sums up what a complete cock up the National League made of it all.

Could it be that Dover come out of this better than the other National league clubs excluding the two that get promoted of course, they have I believe been fined 40 k ( no point deduction mentioned at the moment) whereas Alty have said it will cost them 150k to finish the season

I don't think Durrell is the right profile for us. We're targeting young players we can develop, improve and move on. He has the ability, but don't think he'd be a good fit.

Was very surprised to hear this news the other day (even more so considering Dannyâs appearance on The Seals Podcast), and I was gutted too given he played quite an important role in our successes of last season. It was always going to be difficult for Danny to match Akwasi Asanteâs magnificent feat for us, but 17 goals in 46 games was still a healthy return while if you also put his impressive loan spell at Alfreton Town into consideration, then he does deserve a stab at National League football. I must admit my eyebrows were raised when I found out he moved to Hartlepool United, because I thought heâd sign for a lower side like Kingâs Lynn Town, Barnet, or Altrincham where he would perhaps receive a good amount of game time. At Hartlepool I highly doubt he will start for them, but I can still see him being a good impact player as his work rate was always excellent for us, heâs very pacy, and is a committed and determined individual. Thereâs no hard feelings on my part given we still live in challenging and unprecedented times, and at the end of the day Danny just wants to do what he enjoys by playing football with a decent wage package, which is absolutely understandable in these difficult times. I wish him all the very best as heâs a lovely lad who always gave it his all, and I really do hope he smashes it by making the most of his deserved opportunity. Weâve overcome setbacks in the past and I am confident we will overcome this one too. With no disrespect to Danny he didnât score hatfuls and there were occasions last season where we managed to secure some impressive wins without him being involved, so I am sure we will be fine ahead of next season. Good luck for the rest of your career Danny!

Or maybe he preferred to sign for a team that stands a chance of being promoted this season rather than being an extra in a Netflix disaster movie.

Saw that scoreline, I thought he managed another debut hattrick! That was Akwasi Elliott did it for Alfreton when he went on loan there though I think. Not certain it was his debut. It finished 7-2 so a nervy finish for Hartlepool!

Ex-loanee Rhys Oates scored a couple though.
Elliott actually came on for him today.

Dave Challinor -
"Dannyâs situation is he was essentially out of contract at Chester because of furlough, Chester want to have him back next season and thatâs still a viable option for them although he is putting himself a little bit in the shop window with us which isnât ideal from Chesterâs point of view. But thereâs no reason why he canât go back there next year just as thereâs no reason why he canât get a few goals for us and do his career a favour moving forward."
"Iâve spoke to Bernard at Chester and theyâve been great in recognising the situation and looking after the lad and knowing that he saw this as a good opportunity and not denied him that opportunity. Itâs been really good and helps us by not adding to our loan list and Danny has been very enthusiastic and keen to impress."

He scored a consolation the other day in Hartlepoolâs 2-4 defeat against Maidenhead United.
