Croatia 15/2 with some bookies today. I'm not one to listen to for betting tips but that seems crazy to me. England should have enough to win this one but don't underestimate the Croatians

Really don't like this England team no grealish Sterling playing trippier lb like watching Dom Sibley play cricket good job Croatia aren't as good anymore

Only three Englishmen have played in goal in a European Cup/Champions League tie, started in a European Cup/Champions League final and then played in the European Championships.
Ray Clemence, Peter Shilton and… Kyle Walker.

A win and a draw will almost certainly get you through. I'm not a fan of third-placed teams going through myself, I think they should expect the tournament to 32 teams World Cup style. Saying that, England have started brightly.

Surprised the pundits are praising that half. Good first 10-15 minutes but after that I thought Croatia looked the more composed side.

Are we going to pay the price for not capitalising on our early superiority?
That said, I'm somewhat disappointed with Croatia who have always coupled a fighting approach with real technical ability so I still lean towards us winning albeit not too comfortably.

Good win and a solid performance against a dogged Croation team standouts for me Kalvin Phillips who didn't put a foot wrong and Raheem Sterling who took his goal well on the minus side I didn't realise Kane was on the pitch untill he clattered into the post, still the perfect start.

Great to see the two standouts are BAME players. Shuts the haters up. Great result - can’t believe that’s our first ever opening game Euros win, at the tenth attempt. That’ll be why I had money on the draw.

Didn't think it was a great performance from England myself. A bit flat at times, and so was the atmosphere. I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing though, if we can win against a good side without looking brilliant.

Never won an opening game at the Euros until we embraced Marxism 😉
Nah, in all seriousness - the state of panic must’ve been stratospheric in those pre-match boo-ers when they realised they had to celebrate a black mans goal. Real patriotism is booing your own country before they play their first game at a major international tournament…

Wonderfully slapstick North Macedonia goal. Austria's was a lovely goal though to be fair.

Looks like I made the right choice to go and play golf instead of watching the game I had the course to myself , we won but not a great game, win win.

The Austria v North Macedonia game was a reminder of why I try to watch every game. Really good match where Macedonia gave a good account of themselves. Not sure what to make of Austria, they huffed and puffed a bit but scored three tidy goals.

Turns out UEFA gave Denmark three options -
1. Continue the game the same day 2. Restart the game at 12pm the following day (12pm so as to not impact the fixture/TV schedule) 3. Forfeit the game and award Finland the win

For me football showed it's true values last night. Humanity, empathy, sympathy. I was rooting for Eriksen as was all of the rest of the football family. His partner crying by the pitch was painful to watch it really was. So many people helped him when he needed it. He good top level treatment from the doctors, medics, stadium staff, his team mates (top blokes) even both sets of fans. I am so glad that life won because it could have been so different. Put things into perspective really Football is not that important LIFE is. We have what we like to call 'banter' on DC with other fans (usually WXM) but last night should bring it all back into the realms of 'common sense' We are all football fans we just wear a different shirt. It also shows how life can be very fragile and it can all be over in an instant like flicking a switch...click! All of this said i'm glad Eriksen is on the mend. Looking at what happened i cannot see him playing football again after this nor do i think he should just too risky Great post. The Finns chanting his first namr and Danes his surname was touching as well. That's something only the Scandinavian and Nordic nations seem able to do - get a chant going with no real rhythm. It's like that Icelandic thunderclap thing, how do they all know when to do it? And some of our "fans" take to booing the oppositions national anthem, its no wonder we have little respect as a nation.

Yes, it seems England fans still haven't grown out of jeering the other team's anthem, and I find that as disappointing as the booing of the knee, if not more so. Why boo the national anthem of Croatia, for God's sake? It's a shitty and pig-headed thing to do.

I thought Croatia were very disappointing. England were not much better, but Phillips and Mings were our best 2 players and did great. I thought Mings was going to be a disaster, but he did well. But we were awful in possession - Walker & Sterling being the worst culprits at losing the ball. Kane was anonymous and Foden had a great first 10, then just didn't work hard enough after that. Surely Grealish will play on Friday!? England are really lacking a leader on the pitch and missed Maguire in that respect.

Given that option I think they might well have still chosen to play the game that day, but to back them into a corner like that is typical UEFA putting their own preferred way of working ahead of compassion and common sense.

Cracking 2nd goal from the Czechs but why do goalkeepers stand so far out of their goal inviting this sort of opportunity

Knowing Scotland they'll probably beat England but lose the other two games. Great that they've qualified but this is a reminder that tournaments have always been a frustrating experience for them.

This would’ve been their win game, given the other two sides in the group. Best lineup minus Tierney too. Disappointing.
They’ll turn up for England thoogh, definitely.

For such a brilliant goal, the commentary for the Czech goal was ridiculous. Yeah it was a bit. They reacted with a disappointed sigh and by moaning about Hendry giving the ball away. Most of us watching reacted with amazement. In the other games, Poland were the same as they always seem to be - strong in qualifying, but really dour and uninspiring in tournamants. Only saw the second half of the Spain game but they looked short of ideas. I think teams have sussed them out now and they need to change their style.
