What a fantastic goal for Newport last night.
I guess he'll be particularly motivated to put one over Morecambe given the way he was treated there.

He scored against them earlier in the season, went right in front of the managers face to celebrate. After that more players came out against that manager for the same mistreatment.

He's always been a bit fiery and does some stupid things, but he's also always had a knack for scoring great goals and to still be doing it at 42 is brilliant. He's sort of player you love to have playing for you basically. Respect to him for his work as a mental health ambassador as well.

Remember his belters at Sheff Wednesday and Grimsby. Class act.

I remember when we played away at Lincoln and he got a great reception from the Lincoln fans, having played for them previously. He then scored a cracker and stood with his back to the home stand pointing at his name on the shirt. Their fans went mental and booed every touch he had after that which just resulted in him winding them up even more, a real character.

If it's the same game I'm thinking of, the ref gave about three or four very strange decisions in our favour and their fans were going nuts! Our goal came from an indirect free kick in their area which nobody knew why we'd been given, and Ellison looked like he just thumped it in without it touching another player, but it was awarded.

Fantastic player and character, I really want Newport to win the play offs just for his sake and what a perfect way to stick it to Derek Adams

Was really surprised that he was still playing and he was immense for us. Remember watching us at Bournemouth in the FA Cup and he was the best player on the pitch. He often was. I hope he turns out for the final. He has presence and ability still. Makes a nonsense of age determining your end to football...

It could have been very different hadn’t it had been for the pandemic, he was close to re-signing for us. Imagine Ellison in this league!

Derek Adams seems to be carved in the mould of Mark Wright somewhat, in that he has proved he can get results (leading a club of Morecambe’s stature to the L2 play-off final is no mean feat) but doesn’t endear himself to too many people in the process. Believe he had a major falling out with the local media in Plymouth when he was manager there.
Hope Kev emerges triumphant in the final.

Derek Adams had the last laugh. Morecambe promoted to the third tier for the first time in their history.

Derek Adams had the last laugh. Morecambe promoted to the third tier for the first time in their history. Do they have a benefactor these days? Another team average less home fans than ourselves, only aways fans in that league have managed to get them over 2,000 before the pandemic happened.

Adams is just a very good manager (Ellison stuff aside). He was excellent at Ross County before going to Plymouth. Won silverware at every club he's been at.
Not sure how Morecambe managed to get him in the first place to be honest. He does seem to be more of a shoestring budget type, like John Coleman is. Look at the players in the squad - they’re cast offs from elsewhere, even from levels below.

One of the smallest budgets in the FL.

One of the smallest budgets in the FL. Seems right, can only think of Barrow who might have a smaller one. Accy pull in a few more these days.
McAlinden & the much maligned Cole Stockton up front, they were unwanted at National League level. Mendes Gomes the match winner was picked up from West Didsbury....

The smallest budget in the EFL. Adams has been extremely shrewd in the market signing lots of his old Argyle players that have got out of the league previously like Songo'o, Diagouraga and Letheren in goal. I remember a young Diagouraga dominating us back in the day.
Another very depressing indication of where we are compared to them. Wonder what odds you'd have got on Morecambe and Accrington one day playing each other in L1 back in the mid noughties!

You'd think after everything Adams caused he would have at least showed some dignity and not try and provoke Ellison at FT

You'd think after everything Adams caused he would have at least showed some dignity and not try and provoke Ellison at FT There's two sides to every story though. Ellison's is that Adams froze him out, Adams' will no doubt be different. And Ellison can't really complain given that every single time he scores a goal he tries to goad someone. I don't know how he made it through this season without opposition fans to wind up!

Would be good to have him back for one last season Personaly, I would rather take the chance on 22 year old than a 42 year old. The signings we make need to have sell on value.

Balance of our squad is about right at the moment, primarily younger but complemented by a few older heads.
If an older player is available with the right attitude and they'll help us then absolutely go for it. E.g Lacey last season.

Morecambe will probably get relegated next season. Good idea to leave while you're a wanted property. As been said above bigger club, and likely a bigger salary and longer contract.
