I think we all are looking for a chink of light..when it’s mid table, mid table and mid table..playing teams that..well aren’t that well known every season and having less supporters than us, yet finishing higher in the league..it gets a bit discouraging..also not many would agree but what’s happening up the road does gripe a bit..I think we were all looking for a flyer come the start of the season…lets give it a few more games…

Just a thought, I wonder how many people calling for a change of model are actually CFU members?
Just think anyone who isnt a member and calling for a sugar daddy to come in is a bit silly, its one of the easiest and cheapest ways to support the club and gives you a actual say in how its run. Also if we did want to become a more attractive proposition for somebody to come in surely a high number of members (along with season ticket holders, avg attendance) would make the club more appealing.
Im happy with the fan owned model and nobody can say its not been successful, its had its ups and downs (like most things) and theres been learning curves along the way but I see that being around the conference/conference north as a success especially after where we were originally placed. like most fans id love to see us back in the league but theres a lot of work ahead for that. Were seeing that work happening but i think it does go unnoticed especially if the first team loses a few games, the likes of the KGV and our brilliant youth teams are going to be major assets to us going forward. Along with having a settled management who are building the team around our best players and bringing young but promising players in around them which they know have the potential to play in and above the league with further coaching. These are also players we may sell on in the future to bring in further income, the talent id events and scouting are going to be important in all the above and I feel will look to develop this further in the near future.
have patience, were going to come good

Its time to get out of fan owned and get a big money backer. We're Chester for gods sake. We've not had a big money backer in 135 years. Not like we're going to get one now is it..

It’s difficult one to choose, if we do well in the league we’ll be okay and income should increase , if we don’t then we are in trouble unless we get more fans which will be hard to achieve or stop the decrease in current attendance If the worse happens then there maybe only one option. History for us has showed someone coming in and saving us has not delivering a long term security. In summary , if we can survive within our means and be competitive and play decent enjoyable football then I’m happy , if the football is crap then the inevitable will happen and we’ll end up with a reduced fan base and we cant sustain that to survive even if we keep digging into our own pockets in boosting budgets which will dwindle over time. The next few months are so important to our destiny and will shape our options whatever they may be.

I'm not sure there is a choice. We've never had one credible offer to take the club over. Anyone who thinks there are benevolent millionaires floating around, who would want to throw away their money on a regional football club is living in dream world. What happened down the road was once in a lifetime. God knows how much they are pumping in, with no guarantee of getting out of NL. We're in a rough patch but it needs to be taken in context (read the Jonno interview). Some of the over reaction has been hysterical.

We've not had a big money backer in 135 years. Not like we're going to get one now is it.. Just a point, there are many companies out there that broker football clubs, just like the one Wrexham used and many others..it really is a silly argument saying nobody wants to buy us...at the moment globally its becoming a trend..its like if ive got a lawn mower in my shed i want to sell, yet if i don't tell anybody...i ain't going to sell it, that simple....but reading the posts, some posters are happy too just survive swimming around in ever decreasing circles and are proud that we are a fan owned club but with little going forward (you know...something to pass on to the grand kids), and others have ambition and want to take that risk and strive forward to a be a part of the football league again, which its really what's it all about...not saying either party is right or wrong, its what everybody's personal preference is as a supporter group..as ive said...but doing something or doing nothing, both have pitfalls...but doing something, might just have its rewards...

I don't recall the club stopping an offer? Murphy presented an idea, the club asked him to submit a business plan and pay his debts and he ran away. I never said that anyone had stopped an offer, what i said is that nobody will even consider it based on the hostility to it IF it involved giving up majority fan ownership. Nobody will even consider it? What have you got to back that assumption up? If Reynolds turned up wanting to take us over he’d have been voted in by 90%+ of the membership.

I see this a lot with sections of the fan base blaming "people with co-owner in their twitter bio" "people who love being an owner and would never consider selling". It's a complete fiction they've invented themselves because it gives them someone to blame and they can vent their anger. It absolves them from the pressure of fan ownership and allows them to feel they are cleverer and superior to the rest of the fans. Realistically if a serious offer came in I would expect a huge majority of the fans would back it. But some people have decided that all our woes are based on these fictional dies hards are stopping people like Stuart Murphy from rescuing us and dragging the club down.

How many football fans can legitimately call themselves a co-owner of their club? We should be proud about that. On the flip side, I’d be voting in any serious takeover bid with succession planning in place, as R&R have done (WST basically get first dibs on ownership once they want out). Bizarre that people conflate these two positions. Maybe it’s intentional as you suggest. Pro fan-ownership ≠ anti private-ownership In the process of writing my dissertation on the viability of fan-ownership in English football, ironically enough. It’s writing itself for me at the minute!

There was a vague hint but nothing in writing as far as I am aware, happy to be proved wrong though.

Our current standing is probably about right. The club infrastructure and fan base is a top half of the national league north. No way could we compete in the league above.
People thinking we have a divine right to be beating the chorley of the world comfortably Need to get a rip. We have to start getting greater numbers through the turnstiles first.
What happened to embrace the shitness?

I genuinely don’t see where people think this clubs going If things carry on. The fact is this model doesn’t work we’ve proved that in the national league Wrexham Hereford darling telford all proved it doesn’t work either… And Newport? AFC Wimbledon? What have they proved?

If some people weren't so obnoxious perhaps the club would be better able to attract some proper investment.

My best mate is a volunteer at Newport and they didn't get anywhere near that sort of money from him. He gave the club quite a bit when they needed it and joined the board for a few years, but they languished around at our level or below for a decade before a couple of good managers got them into the conference and then the league. And then the attendances came back... It doesn't matter who owns you, bills still have to be paid by someone and only success on the pitch brings fans in.

You can only move on when there is somewhere to move on to.
Until there is, we are the custodians of our club. It is down to us to keep the club going, and hopefully build it, until someone else will.
Those fans who turn their back on the club seem to think it will still be there in the future when they fancy coming back. If they're waiting for league football, or a richer owner than other teams have, there maybe a long wait. Without the fans it won't happen.
No owner will pump millions into a club with no assets and no fans. We need to keep this club going until an opportunity arises. Until then there really is nothing to discuss. At least the future is in our own hands, rather than someone else's.

At least the future is in our own hands, rather than someone else's. This is bang on. The fans are the club. Without them there is no club. If people dont go to games, buy shirts, pay subs etc it will cease to exist. The problem we have is that we feel it so keenly when we have a bad run because nobody is there to make up the difference. Until somebody comes along to do this we have to cut our cloth accordingly. As I am sick of saying, our budget is more than competitive for a side looking to make the play offs. This is down to supporters putting their hands in their pockets, and countless volunteer hours put in by people doing all sorts of different jobs trying to keep the football going. These jobs are paid at funded clubs. Every time somebody who volunteers several hours a week at this club reads some post about how our club is shite, how Chester are a joke, about how "its about time we got an investor" do you think that encourages them? Or do you think it makes them think "ah fuck this, I cant be arsed anymore". The board have always said if a serious offer came in to invest in the club they would put it to a vote. As bad as the football currently is (and its pretty grim) that poor form on the pitch is temporary. Think about the above before you post, because I can guarantee if it does close it wont come back again.

I know several people who are not going because the team are not winning. If people like those don't go the team will decline due to lack of money. If the club fails and has to pack in they will be the first to moan.

To all those wise people who say that fan ownership doesn't work please tell us who these mythical money people who are ready to invest are. I think we will all be dazzled by their silence.
I would say that starting from nothing to create a club and building a sustainable outfit meaning we have a club to support now and in the future is working. It may not be as successful or go as far as some people want and yes decent investment would be a help but we have a club to support.
Imagine the alternative, if in 2010 everybody had said it's not worth starting up again without significant investment and just let the club die after being wound up. How many would have taken the opportunity to join the Wxm bandwagon. I think most of us would probably look to a future with no football than that.
I'll say that again A FUTURE WITH NO FOOTBALL! For that is the stark choice you can have something or nothing. We would like league football again but if there is no club then that dream is impossible.
