I have entered a 10k run at just six weeks’ notice having had no experience of training or running regularly before - this can only end well! The Run Chester Zoo event is a 10k run which starts and ends inside the zoo, using the roads in the surrounding area of the zoo, and is capped to last 90 minutes (though I hope to finish well before 90 minutes!). I have decided to raise vital funds for Chester FC Community Trust. Please visit the link (only just set up the page) below, where every donation however small will help. Appreciate its yet another call for donations but the work the CT does in the community with just grants, donations and fundraisers to go on is fantastic. Nath's Run Chester Zoo

Excellent commitment to the cause! Just made a donation.
Also, running has been my covid pastime, so if you need any advice on making the transition from a totally inept runner to a slightly less inept runner, you know where to come!

I'm also running in this event and one or two other Chester supporters I know who regularly go running may well be taking part also. Try to get a run or two in a week if you can and when it gets to the actual race day, don't start off too quickly

Just given a donation.
Best of luck in the run.

Thanks all for kicking this fundraiser off, and for the advice and offers of advice! Great to see there’ll be other Blues taking part.
First trial run starts this evening with a three miler to the neighbouring village and back.

Drink loads of water in the lead-up to the run and run at a pace where you could easily have a conversation if you were running with someone.

Completed my first trial run this evening, essentially a “couch to 5k” for me straight off the bat - managed it in under half an hour which I’m very happy with.
I probably didn’t pace myself well and was maybe too eager, but sure that’ll come the more I do. Next up is the Parkrun at the Countess Country Park on Saturday morning!
Thanks all for the generous donations so far 🔵⚪️🔵⚪️

Next up is the Parkrun at the Countess Country Park on Saturday morning! I regularly run at Chester Parkrun and if you're not familiar with the course, it does involve running through a field twice which can be uneven and muddy underfoot. There's also one or two inclines on the course which can drain a bit of energy from the legs. If you're thing of doing any other parkruns in the local area;- Ellesmere Port is very flat and almost entirely on grass; Delamere goes around Blakemere moss lake; Wepre Park is very picturesque, but involves running up and down a steep hill twice! There's also Erddig which is nice, but is probably too near to a certain place that we're not supposed to mention on here!

Cheers for the advice Mr Mark - the Countess Country Park run is just more convenient for me, could also do Wepre Park but sounds like that’s a grueller!

I know things are rubbish on the pitch at the minute with another defeat yesterday but just a brief update on this - I took part in my first ever Parkrun at the Countess Country Park yesterday and finished the 5km in 25:36 according to Strava (having ran 5.30k in 27:38 locally on a balmy Wednesday evening for my first trial run).
Happy with that, I certainly paced it better at the Parkrun than I did on my own locally in midweek, mainly because there were other runs to use as personal pace-setters(!). I think that’s a tactic I’ll be using in the run-up to the event and then during the event too.
I’m away next weekend in Southport but have already found the Southport Parkrun for next Saturday morning to keep this routine going alongside the midweek evening local run.
Please do keep the donations coming - no matter what happens with the first team on the pitch, the Community Trust do tremendous work off it to improve the lives of people in the area 🔵⚪️🔵⚪️

I saw you run past me in your Chester shirt as I was at the back being the tail walker. I would've have said hello, but I don't like to distract other runners, plus I'm also shy! Well done for your run and time yesterday. It really can make a big difference to how well you run when you're amongst other people.

Keep an eye out in Saturday’s programme - there is hopefully going to be a bit of publicity about this. I am stepping up my training as the weeks go on in the hope to last a full 10km within an hour!
Payday coming up soon, it’d be fantastic to increase the donations so far, for a great cause 🔵⚪️🔵⚪️

Another Plug Alert🚨 🚨 🚨
Payday week this week for many, would be fantastic if we could keep the donations coming in for the Community Trust! I am stepping up my training this week to go longer distances than 5k, in order to get used to the distance for the big day. Did a 7.5k around Moston, Upton and Bache on Monday in a time I was very happy with so eager to keep that up.

Been a bit quiet on this lately but with just a week to go until the main event I thought I’d update on how my training is going! I have been in a routine of the same two or three runs a week with Chester Parkrun on Saturdays where I can, and more local runs close to home in midweek. Pushed it last Saturday though and took an hour out of a weekend break away with the family to run from Llanrug to Caernarfon and back - 13km down in 1hr 4mins (hitting 10k of it in 48 mins). I’m regularly clocking 5km in around 23 minutes - finally found something I seem to be good at 🤣 With a week to go it would be great to see further donations to help the club’s Community Trust to keep doing what they’re doing to improve the lives of all sorts of people in the area 🔵⚪️🔵⚪️ DONATE HERE

Well it’s all over, and it was great fun and a great experience to do this 10k having entered six weeks ago (my wife actually signed me up and dropped it on me without me knowing!) without any prior running or training experience before ever.
I’ve completely surprised myself during the past month or so of training and running locally and at the regular Parkrun at the Countess of Chester Country Park on Saturday mornings, and in the end when it came down to the big run today I ended up smashing it in 46 minutes, hitting a 5k PB and a 10k PB, finishing 166th out of almost 2,400 runners, and have raised a few hundred quid (£300 and counting) for a fantastic cause which we can all get behind regardless of what’s going on with the first team on the pitch.
Looking forward to the next event!
I’d be massively grateful for continues donations if you can 🔵⚪️🔵⚪️

A very good effort, especially for your first ever road race and in wet conditions. I finished only a couple of minutes behind you, which isn't bad considering I actually walked over 4 miles to the zoo in the pouring rain to begin with!
