I have thought about this and I think Berno and Johno have a real problem on their hands. I think the players that were recruited were done so with the intention of playing a 4-5-1 , with Weeks and Glendon, in midfield . Hardy in the hole and swashbuckling goals coming from Stephenson and Johnson on the wings with Waring or Dudley upfront, with a crisp passing, pocession based game. However, The main problem with this is that Weeks and Glendon are not defenseive midfielders and need a ball winner behind them. But if you play a holding midfielder you need both Week and Glendon to player higher up the pitch and it limits the role for a number 10. Hence, Hardy's left wing appearance against Alfredton. The problem with this is whoever is upfront , be it Waring or Dudley gets isolated, because Stephenson and Johnson are underperforming. I think this is why you are seeing so much Bignot Bingo, because with the players signed , it makes it very difficult to get back to a basic 4-4-2. , unless players are played out of position. It would need about 3 players moving out, because there is imbalance in the squad and an abundance of midfield players and underperforming wingers and they all lack basic physicality. I think unless these problens are addressed, then we may find ourselfs in a relegation battle because that has got the disjointed look of a McCarthy team about it. To conclude, to make us more compact , you need to play a Lacey,or similar defensive midfielder, in the holding role , which neans that , you cant play a 4-4-2, as it means that you either drop one of Glendon or Weeks or get maybe weeks on to the right wing You might get away with a 5-3-2 , which allows for Weeks and Glendon and a holding midfield player with Waring and Dudley upfront. How they solve this problem, will determine, how our season pans out, because at the moment, it is well below the required standard.

We were very successful with a 532 under Wright, to be fair. We have the players for it in the current squad, we’d just drop the underperforming wingers.
Cowan, Livesey and Williams in a back three. Lacey, Weeks and Glendon the balanced midfield. Askew and Morgan up and down from wing-back. Dudley and Waring/Marsh-Hughes up front. All of those players essentially playing in their best positions - Morgan and Askew are neither full backs nor wingers for me.
I was alarmed by Bern’s post-match interview on Saturday - reiterating that this squad is the best they’ve had since taking over, into their fourth season now. If that’s the case, then this poor start to the season and dreadful defensive record can only be down to the managers can’t it? Think the board will be having strong words about sorting it out quickly.

They’ve recruited to play 4-5-1, but the issue we have is that their results record playing 4-5-1 historically has been dire. Best team based on what I’ve seen this season is:- Gray Morgan Williams Cowan Askew Hardy Weeks Lacey Oyibo Dudley Waring

Would Glennon's 1 match ban come into effect in the cup or the next league game?

Would Glennon's 1 match ban come into effect in the cup or the next league game? I think from around the season the pandemic started bans were made competition specific, so it would be the next league game. Thanks for that 👍

That conference winning side he put together was fantastic all over the pitch.

This squad has been crying out for 532 since the Curzon match.
LG
JM DL DC MW JA
PL GG DW
GW AD
Use the misfiring wide men as impact subs as and when needed, until they can find some consistency.

The squad might be crying out for 532. However, we've never looked good playing a 5 under B+J. Even pre-season against Northwich and FC United we've looked dreadful playing it.

Every pre-season they’ve trialled 5 at the back and we played that formation at the Blyth disaster. It hasn’t gone well, I agree. Ironically, we now have genuine wing backs who could do both an attacking and defensive job, yet B&J are putting their faith in wide forwards.

Personally i don't rate Dudley, Waring or Stephenson and we are going nowhere with any of these upfront Dudley is a quality player. A bit low on confidence at the moment, but he has been one of our best of the last 3 years.

Completely agree, Weeks has been at his best when we are in the oppositions half. Also our midfielders don't have a physical presence, against Curzon we looked tiny
