It's not even a city, but then neither is "Cornwall" which is one of the other possibilities.
Good luck to them if they get it, I suppose. It seems a bit of a gimmick but the whole 2008 thing undoubtedly helped Liverpool.

It seems a bit of a gimmick but the whole 2008 thing undoubtedly helped Liverpool. Liverpool were awarded European Capital of Culture, which was deemed a big deal at the time. This is UK Capital of Culture, which was created on the back of Liverpool’s success. I basically see the UK capital of culture as a dressed up way to re-invigorate deprived and under performing areas. Previous areas awarding the “accolade” were Derry, Hull and Coventry, so make of that what you will.

Thanks - to be fair we are not a city but this is about culture. Don't think we will get it unless Rob and Ryan can send out a few brown envelopes!
There is plenty of history and culture in Wrexham if you dig deep - not on the scale of Chester but then not many places the size of Chester have as much history as you do.
One thing we do well in Wrexham is look after the homeless, which is not culture but should be applauded - although many will disagree.

Also I believe a UK city can no longer be named European City of Culture as it's EU-funded. Another one in the "oh, we never thought of that" category.

Maybe the powers that be thought all the spice found there actually related to curry houses.
