What was the story with the RR / RM takeover at Wrexham - i.e. did they present a business plan to the members and if so, was this compared to a business plan for the fan ownership model?
There has been loads of talk on here recently about our own fan ownership model, but if ever we were lucky enough to get a Dave Whelan character willing to pour money into the club then fans would at least deserve to scrutinise two business plans for the prospective owner AND for fan ownership.
Stuart Murphy was rightly criticised for not submitting a business plan - but imagine if he did - how could fans possibly compare a detailed business plan (with 3, 5, 10 year projections etc) to the one Chester FC came up with (no figures - just a list of things we aspire to do).
The way I see it at the moment is that I'm pro-fan ownership - it would take a pretty compelling argument to persuade me otherwise - but if ever a bid came in, members should have like-for-like business plans to compare.

They told the Wrexham membership they would put £1million into the club and the WST just rolled over and gave them the club for nothing. They took control on the promise of putting £1million into the company they now own, so effectively paid themselves. |

That would be astonishing if it were that simple!
There would be no way in a million years that they would have sold out to a businessman or an anonymous bidder, for example.
Seems that fame can buy you a football club with little or no scrutiny from its star-struck members.

They may have a track record you can check out. They might not.
If a club gets a good owner, they could prosper for years.
If a club gets a bad owner, they could struggle for years.
If our club gets a dishonest owner, that could be NWC league at best, or the end. No club at all.
Some people will just close their eyes and trust they get a good one. Others wouldn't believe a good one even if it was the family from Leicester City.
Let's be honest, we probably wouldn't have enough knowledge to know which they were.

For example, if they came out and said we'd be getting crowds of 5,000 after 3 years based on extending the Legends Lounge, most fans would look beyond the numbers as it would highlight they don't understand the club. |

To me, 1962's attitude shows how perilous ownership can be. Since when would you be blase about an FA cup run as you'll get knocked out at some point?
Just because they have money, it's almost like nothing else matters. Cup runs? Who cares... Fans raising cash for the club? Doesn't matter any more!
What happens when the new owners get bored? They'll be left with a spoilt fanbase who can't be arsed doing the hard graft anymore.
