Welcome Cal Some of the tweets on official club page is embarrassing Give the lad a chance ffs With a strong sense of inevitability you can see an "I told you so" thread hitting DC at the first sign of a setback. It's almost as if some people take delight in wanting people to fail simply to be "proven right" You know it's coming

It's almost as if some people take delight in wanting people to fail simply to be "proven right" You know it's coming I was going to post something similar to this. The first sign of a bad bit of form which will inevitably occur over the course of a season and the vultures on here will have him for breakfast which is just wrong. Welcome Calum I hope your time here is successful and personally I'm overjoyed that you are with us. Cracking appointment and well done to the board for making this happen. Can you imagine if we'd waited all week for Jim Gannon.

Happy with that. Give me CM any day over a manager on the way down, looking for another payday and not really giving a shit.
Could be totally wrong, but I have a feeling this will be a very wise decision made by the club. From what I can see, he is a meticulous planner, tactically strong and passionate about the job. No brainer. UTS.

Some of the replies on Twitter are appalling, we’ve got some real whopper fans who can’t wait to have a dig at the Club.

Cals obviously did a good job with Linnets getting them to a playoff final and has done great work with the academy. I have no doubt he’ll be passionate and committed in the role. I do think an element of the appointment is to get the fans onside and quell the toxic negativity we’ve seen this season which seems to be working as majority on here have reacted positively. That being said, to put someone with just over 1 full season of first team non league management experience in a division which is 2 divisions below ours is a huge risk on paper. However the game isn’t played on paper so hopefully it’s one that pays off !
Just out of curiosity though would be interesting to see who else was on the shortlist/applied for the role. See if there was any surprising candidates.

No brainer. UTS. 100% this. People calling for a manager who has been successful at this level and can bring in all his old players must have had their eyes closed during Bern & Jonno’s spell. It’s a risk but so is any appointment we could make. This is hands down the best decision, managers like Artell and Curle are well out of reach, we need youth and longevity to future proof us as a club, not someone looking for a quick stint and payday. Cal 100% has my support for what he’s done for this club and I have no doubt had we not gone for him, another club would have in time. From his point of view it’s a job he could never turn down. People (including me) have been saying for ages that we need to copy the youth > first team structure of the likes of Crewe and Exeter, well this is our best chance of doing just that!

I don’t get all the negative comments and talk about age and coming too soon. The guy has shown what he can do over the last few years and progressed each year and no one can doubt his enthusiasm and knowledge of the club. The Bayern Munich manager is an example of age being no barrier. Recently an article on a young Lad in Belgium as well. Two words Mad Macca …. It can’t get any worse can it

I was talking to a kids coach at the weekend about the FA Youth Cup win against Wrexham and he said Calum watched them 4 times before they played. He puts the hours in to be successful and gives the players confidence they know how to win.

Congratulations Calum!
There is no doubt that this appointment is a risk, but as has already been pointed out, which appointment isn't. The positives outweigh the potential negatives. He more than knows the club, has a good record, is ambitious and fits right in with the 'new dawn'
We could look back at this moment as the beginning of a new era. Someone who helps to shape the ethos of the club from this point. A Jurgen Klopp type appointment!
Ok, I am getting carried away now, better stop

New training ground, day time training, bigger budget and two year contracts galore, I just wonder if a certain Mr Swettenham has started to invest again into the club.
Glad he got the job, a good fit and has been out and got the experience of semi-professional football.
Please let us announce Weeks and the re-signing of Iwan Murray, Midfield General will have a coronary!

I've not watched any Runcorn Linnets games, or any of the youth games, but formation wise what can we expect from a Callum McIntyre Chester side?
