Absolutely the right decision by the Board in my opinion. Calum fully deserves this opportunity. I am only interested in his ability to win football matches, increase attendances and to develop players for the first team and to sell on, not his age. I hope that Colin Woodthorpe is joining him.

New training ground, day time training, bigger budget and two year contracts galore, I just wonder if a certain Mr Swettenham has started to invest again into the club. Glad he got the job, a good fit and has been out and got the experience of semi-professional football. Please let us announce Weeks and the re-signing of Iwan Murray, Midfield General will have a coronary! Or perhaps Jack Hazlehurst from City of Liverpool You need a Sargent or a Burke at the base of midfield, but you would know that with your extensive knowledge of the game. Lol

Absolutely delighted for Calum. He thoroughly deserves this opportunity. I have watched his youth teams numerous times and Runcorn several times. His teams are always committed, organised and try to play positive football.

I didn't expect this. I was in the camp of maybe it's too soon for him, but they say of players if they're good enough then they're old enough. Callum will get my full support, I know how meticulous he is on preparation. People wanted a manager with previous success at this level, we've had that and it didn't work out. People wanted a manager with experience of this level, which could equate to years of managing at this level with no promotions. I think Cal has shown enough with his record at Linnets to deserve this chance and I congratulate the board on giving him this opportunity.
Good successful managers start somewhere on that journey, why not Callum McIntyre?

Glendon and Stephenson signing is seemingly a massive thumbs up from the senior pros at the club.

Who knows if this will work out or not but we could say that about any manager that could have been appointed, just remember our history we wouldn't be where we are if things had gone well would we. Oh and before anyone starts that includes ownership of the club aswell, What the hell did any of us know about running a football club when we took over ? and even that has had its ups and downs but we learn as we go. One thing Calum does have is some experience in coaching so lets get behind him and give him our full support, just like we do with the people that run our club day to day past and present and have done an amazing job for us. Congratulations Calum and i wish you every success. PS don't fecking let us down

I don't normaly do twitter but signed up because one of our fans said you should read some of the comments on twitter about this appointment. I first read the comments from the Linnnets fans and they are gutted but wish CM well for his future and some of them brought a tear to my eye (seriously they did) Then i read ours, I have to say quite a lot are respectfull and welcoming but some of them totaly shocked me and had me wondering are they really Chester fans ? I thought Deva chat could be bad at times but twitter is a whole new world i will be staying away from in future. No wonder moral is low with the players ect at times. If they really are Chester fans they need to get a grip becaues all they are doing is destroying moral and the club bit by bit.

Must say the Linnets fans seem to be very mature about the whole thing, expressing sadness about Calum’s departure but wishing him all the best rather than resorting to insults towards him for choosing to go and work for another club.
I’m happy personally with the appointment, but I don’t see an issue with people politely expressing reservations about it if that’s how they feel. However, once again there’s an element that goes several steps further with some spectacular dummy-spitting. Saw one individual declaring we are now a joke of a club and he won’t be going again. Going to be rather awkward for him if Calum delivers success, as he’s either going to keep up a pointless boycott or will have to go back on his word.

Twitter still at it this morning apparently. I swear some people ‘hate watch’ Chester. Everything depressing and negative, why do that to yourselves? Find another interest or hobby.

I'm thrilled with the appointment. Yes there is a risk, but there is with any other manager. He knows and loves the club and is incredibly passionate. His work ethic is fantastic and I have full faith that he will do a great job. I'm interested to know who his backroom staff will be but I'm genuinely excited about the season ahead. Welcome to the job Calum!

Strange how many Goats on Twitter don’t seem to have the time to Google Calum’s name and find out about him, but do have the time to proudly declare they’ve never heard of him. Weird how many of them see us appointing a young manager as something worth taking the piss out of.

Really happy with this appointment. There's always risk, and certainly this is a bold appointment but it feels like the right time to take this route. We've gone down the tried and tested route with limited success, and with the change in training and King George opening it feels right to harness the knowledge and enthusiasm of Callum to drive this forward. Everyone has to start somewhere, and Callum has got a lot of experience for someone so young so it's hardly like he's a novice. As I've mentioned before, it's certainly a risk for him as much as it is for us, but he's a lifelong Chester fan who would find it very hard to turn down the opportunity to manage us - this is a chance for him to really make a name for himself. Disappointing to see some negativity - at the end of the day I thought we were all in this to dream about those glory seasons amongst the periods of shit, and how good would it be if that was led by one of our own....I don't get why some would prefer to avoid embracing a bit of excitement and start with a mindset of how it's all going to fail before he's even had a day in the job. Now is the time to throw everything behind the club, buy your season tickets and your shirt, boost the budget, bring a mate to the game - this feels like a chance to do something a bit different and we can play our part by buying into it and building a great atmosphere for start of the season. I remember Cal from being a young lad at the back of the Hipkiss Express, and I think it's fantastic that we've got a talented young manager who worked his way up through the youth sections and now gets the chance in the main job - Chester FC now creating our own managers.

Spot on, from falling out with him over his and his pals over-excitable antics at away games (I was obviously a long-in-the-tooth fan ground down by decades of misery) to coming up with ideas for chants to get behind the players at the time, to Calum supporting my run for the board at election to now supporting him as first team manager of our club. Think it’s a great story and we do indeed need to go all in and get behind him. The man is a diamond for this club, and it’s wise he has come off the socials since before we made the announcement. With all the appointments off and on the pitch over the last two weeks I cannot wait for August.

I'm very much in the cautious camp, i think it has potential to go very wrong and we'd lose our biggest asset in the youth setup. We've been here before with Simon Davies, i just hope Cal doesnt sign as many midfielders!

Watson was completely absent on them which was great and I’d probably say to Calum to do the same, especially being a fan with mates in the crowd etc. Like I say, full support here and fast start will see a surge in crowds and excitement. Now give me that new home kit 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻

Kev Roberts signs a new one year deal...
Probably good to have his experience in the team if we're going to have a younger side, but I've seen him at fault for a lot of goals this season, looking well off the pace. That being said, he's a 6/10 most games, hoping the extra training will get him back to his best, but certainly wouldn't have been the first player I thought we'd be looking to re-sign.
