So I was thinking how could we get more people signed up to the CFU. Just to clarify I’m not anything to do with the CFU board, just a standard member but I know there are higher level CFU members who are on this forum.
In my opinion this is what should be done:
- Improve CFU advertisement on social media. The marketing isn’t quite there and isn’t intense enough. We need to have a social media rebrand of the CFU as that is where a lot of the younger fans are these days.
- Improve CFU advertisement inside the stadium, in a similar sense to the rebrand I’ve discussed.
I obviously don’t know the inner workings of the club but these are just my opinions.

I'd start with answering emails! My son emailed the club and offered to help with painting the stadium two weeks ago and still not had a reply!

As an idea to increase membership, We could host a open day/family day just before the season starts, have various stalls, meet the players etc. With different areas for signing up for season tickets, CFU memberships, Junior Blues, Order the new home shirt (people can then try it on to order the correct size)

We have taken massive strides in the last weeks and months to improve our club we have have the new hub up and ready for the new season, our new food caterer has lifted us from one of the worst to being voted best in our league for footy scram . We have a feel good factor starting to build with the the appointment of a young manager who I believe will move this club forward and add to that it’s was great to see all the youngsters in the ground taking advantage of the tremendous offers made by the club to attract them to enjoy watching live football . I can’t wait for the new season to start with all the positives that are starting to take shape, let’s get involved and see where it takes us.

Bit like a uni open day of sorts? Meet a few players, maybe tour of ground, let the kids take a penalty in front of Harry Mac (and adults), club shop open like you say, dough and go. If anyone on board see’s this it’s a great idea above 👊🏻

Agree almost entirely But It’s still the same caterers inside the ground and they need to be gone, I’m afraid. If we’re doing well and get decent crowds we can’t keep running out of stock at half time. It’s not good enough.

I've always been surprised that Cleggy never mentions the CFU ever.
We should promote the meetings, Squadbuilder, boost the budgets etc.
Stalls outside the ground on match days and in Blues Bar might help.

Good idea RAC & AA must have picked up millions of members over the years from having a person and a desk outside service stations.

I’m not too sure how easy it can be done but many places have a QR code for menus etc, Could have posters around the ground and in the blues bar - “Sign Up to the CFU in 2 minutes” Another idea I thought we could do is a Chester FC Fans Carpool Scheme, Before every home/away game fans could post on a dedicated website/app to advertise for pick ups on route to the game either they can pick up or if someone would like a lift if available in their area. I’m sure there are many supporters who would love to attend games but don’t have access to transport etc, Could increase crowds, help towards the environment and create new friendships etc. A dedicated thread on Devachat could be a starter?

I think we could do with more payment methods such as visa and Mastercard. Having it only as PayPal has meant that I’ve had to wait almost 10 days to transfer money between accounts.

I changed mine to a monthly dd. You pay £2 a month, and it just comes straight from your bank account each month. Everybody benefits.

The key is direct debits or standing orders etc so that you never have to re - sign up to be a member.
The strongest marketing lever that organisations have is human inertia.

Someone else has a pop at the club and been made to look stupid. You love to see it. The reply above stated that he's replied to my sons email, maybe it went into his spam folder? He's a 20 year old lad that follows the club home and away and wanted to help where he felt he could and was disappointed not to get a response. I'll tell him I'm stupid and not to bother, not like we need more volunteers eh.

Fair comment but not one on his email unless it's in his 'spam' as I've said, happens to me quite often and I'm sure to others. Will check tomorrow let you know.

No need to let us know, nobodies arsed. If an email went his spam folder he still received it to his actual email address.

Rather than actually check his emails properly he's just had a pop at the club instead and been made to look like a bloody fool. Man needs to have a word with himself. Check your emails properly ffs man. And if its gone into your spam folder then that's on you, not the club (before you moan at the club for that as well!!!)

I don't think you're stupid but you've made a mistake. Tell your son to mark the club's email address as "not junk", or just to check his junk folder periodically. Microsoft and others are terrible at working out what you do and don't want to read, and seem to want to complicate it further with things like "Clutter" and "Focused Inbox". Someone I work with has managed to get rid of his junk inbox completely and just gets everything through to the same inbox, says he can soon work out for himself whether something is spam or not.

Open days were regular at one time. Be good for recruiting to CFU. Get some food on, bar open, live music, kids activities, etc.

We’ll certainly look into an open day/training session event for this summer.
The last one we did was 2018 which was successful and we also had a good community day event in Marc 2019.
We didn’t have an open day before 2019/20 as it wasn’t possible to fit one in between the trip to Newquay and busy pre-season schedule, then for obvious reasons the last couple of years have been non-starters.
I’d agree with lots of what’s been said in this thread and we do need to drive CFU membership, which includes bringing lapsed members back on board and reaching the wider Chester public. This will need joined up between marking, celebrating the club’s story and successes, and some legwork in sign up events etc.
PS we do have regular issues with spam filters intercepting emails from the club so always worth checking junk inboxes if you’re awaiting something and adding the club to your safe lists

I was in the City centre on Saturday, plenty of pop up tents on the town hall, maybe something the Club could do with some merchandise and say they can become an owner of the Club and become apart “the journey”

I think the open day idea is great. One other thought is, whilst £12 isn't a lot of money, we need to target the younger demographic too. What about a £6 junior membership?
