We are back on the road for the second time in the space of a few days as we make the trip to Lancashire tomorrow to take on Chorley away where we look to record our fourth clean sheet in a row. Last Saturday we picked up a solid point at Buxton, but ideally we need to be going for all three points tomorrow night. On paper this will be a tougher game as Chorley have made a good start, however we ourselves are proving to be hard to beat, so as long as we remain tight at the back and have more firepower up front, then we could get something. With a huge FA Cup tie on the horizon on Saturday, and having only just played a couple of days ago, changes will probably be made tomorrow to keep everybody fresh.
Our last match was last Saturday as we drew 0-0 away against Buxton in what was a cagey encounter. The first-half was an even affair, as we started off as the brighter side, however as the half went on Buxton grew into the game. Not much was created in terms of chances, so it was still goalless at half-time. Meanwhile, the second-period was relatively similar because we lacked firepower in the final third, although in defence we were excellent. In the end we had to settle for the point which extended our unbeaten run to five games.
Chorley have made a very solid start to the season, having lost only two of their opening nine encounters. The Magpies finished sixth last time out, but unfortunately for them they got knocked out of the play-offs by eventual winners York City. Andy Preece, who was once a contender to be our manager a few years back, is in his first season in charge as Chorley boss having been appointed in May, and thus far he is doing a decent job as the Lancashire club sit outside the play-offs by just two points. However, only one point separates us and Chorley, so we should be able to give them a good game and be more than a match for them.
Canโt wait for this one now as we are coming into the clash in a great run of form, so there is no reason why we cannot maintain that tomorrow. I have been to the Chorley Group Victory Park Stadium twice before, and am still yet to witness us win there, so hopefully it will be third time lucky. In defence we have been very solid lately, but up front we have to create more chances as we donโt appear to be as free-scoring as last season. I think it will be a cagey game so Iโll predict a draw, but to be brutally honest we need to give it everything for all three points which would put us right in the mix.
