With the fa cup game just round the corner what is your favourite fa cup Chester game. Is it back in 1964 when we played the mighty Man Utd at old Trafford and were unlucky to lose 2.1.Roared on by 10000 Chester fans we lead at half time thanks to Jimmy humes headed goal only to lose to goals from Georgie best and Albert Kinsey in front of 45000. Or?

Great day out.

Or the previous round at Newcastle winning 2-0 at St James Park with Rush scoring the second - and being pelted with stones and bottles by the unhappy Geordies

I remember one of my earliest games was beating Millwall 2-0 at home in the 3rd round of the cup on my birthday in 1980. Me and my Grandad were sat in the "new main stand". Ian Rush scored in front of the Sealand Road end that day if my memory is right.
Also remember a 1-1 draw with Sheffield Wednesday at home in front of a big crowd around 1986(?). Was old enough then to go in the Sealand Road End with my mates. I remember Lee Chapman getting a load of stick over Leslie Ash.

Having supported us for 12 years, success in the FA Cup has been hard to come by, so quite obviously my favourite FA Cup memory in my time will have to be our last good run in the 2014-15 season, where we took Barnsley to a replay following two impressive away wins at Stockport County and Southend United.

The cup run in 1980 with Ipswich, Millwall and Newcastle takes some beating. The Ipswich match was a great experience for a 14 year old. My old man said he would take me to the next Fa cup match when we beat Newcastle away, think it was Millwall at home then and he must have kicked himself when we drew Ipswich away. Two trains, 30+ coaches we filled the away end and had two seated areas in one of the stands. We were sitting level with Jones when we took the lead. Oh my god what a atmosphere, heady days ❤️

Has to be beating Forest 3-0. Such an amazing performance and the scoreline didn't flatter us in the least. Runner-up would be coming back from 2 down to beat Oxford 3-2 the season after relegation.
Honourable mention for Middlesbrough away in '97. We may have got hammered 6-0, but it was my first time seeing the blues in a 'big' cup tie, with a fairly new Riverside stadium to visit and Ravenelli and co on show.

Forest at home for me mid 00’s. We had some side then.
Always something about seeing the away end packed for a cup tie really adds to it.
We are due a run !

One of the best games I've been to. I remember it really vividly as well, even to the point of remembering there was a full moon during the game. Blackburn away the round after was the biggest away following I've ever been part of. I still think we were robbed and there was nothing wrong with the goal we had disallowed. I remember we matched or bettered them for a good 75 minutes but then they brought Mark Hughes on and he seemed to swing it in their favour even though he was nearly 40.

I was gutted because we really should have won it.

Singing "you're not famous anymore to the Forest fans was great & to be fair so was their response "we're not famous anymore". Halifax away was a good one also it was 3-1 to us. Even Kevin Crapley managed to get a goal.

They were singing a Ben Davies chant to Justin Walker after Davies had been substituted 10 minutes earlier 😂

Yes I remember cup tie v Oxford Steve Whitehall scored a wonder lob to win it He shinned it if we're honest! You might be confusing it with a goal he scored against Hereford a few weeks later that was indeed a wonder lob.

I remember standing in the home end for that game (before it was named after Harry M). Even when we went two down I knew we were going to win it. Was a really good game. One of my last regular games as I moved down south not long after and rarely get to games now (notwithstanding Xmas visits back to Chester or trips to Brackley of all places to visit the in-laws which mysteriously coincide with Chester away games).

The whole '87 run was memorable for me, without checking the stats, I'm relying on an aging memory, the grind of the early rounds against I think Doncaster and Rotherham, one went to a second replay with only one goal in the three ties, as Brian Croft netted from an acute angle on the goal line, shame I wasn't at the Wrexham game in the snow. But I remember my first time watching Chester face a top flight team in Sheffield Wednesday on a frostbitten ground in game that probably wouldn't have gone ahead today. Lee Chapman's equaliser breaking our hearts, and taking us to the "psycho" incident replay and Graham Abel own goal as we lost 3-1 at Hillsborough. As a kid, I didn't go to away games, but enjoyed the run watching at home, and listening to the radio for the away games.
A couple of draws I enjoyed: The two late goals to draw 2-2 at Cheltenham, when we bundled onto the pitch as the second went in. The 0-0 at Oakwell when we nearly snatched it on the line at the end, when we were still enjoying Steve Burr's dream team.
Also a highly unlikely first round victory against Plymouth in extra time at Home Park when the mad Yank was managing. I found it odd hearing that it was a shock result on the radio on the way home, still hadn't adjusted to the fact that we were now a non league club.

As for the non classics, got to be Royston Town. That was absolutely awful. I quite enjoy visiting small clubs in the cup when the result goes our way, remember we scraped through against Whyteleaf thanks to them missing a penalty.

Also a highly unlikely first round victory against Plymouth in extra time at Home Park when the mad Yank was managing. It was Graham Barrow who was in charge at the time. I think it remains the last time we won an away replay in the FA Cup, something I sincerely hope will no longer be the case after Tuesday night.
