I would hope that we will bring 1,500 to 2,000. This is our biggest cup match since Barnsley away. I can't wait for this one.

Easily over 1500 - this is a new ground for all but our veteran fans, big FA Cup tie and we tend to attract the 'once a season' followers for this type of game.

For those of us who remember going to Middlesborough, and still havent warmed up, make sure you wrap up warm. Oldham’s ground is also know as Ice Station Zebra. It’s supposed to be the coldest ground in England

Over 1,000 at the very least. I have actually been to Boundary Park once before, which was a groundhop in May 2019 where Oldham Athletic lost 2-5 against Northampton Town. Our campaign had already finished by then, but anyway this will understandably be many people’s first trip to Oldham, as we haven’t played them in a competitive game since 1971 - over 50 years ago!! Biggest cup match for us since Barnsley, so we should take loads there.

When did we last visit Boundary park and what was the score? March 1971, 1-1. 44 league meetings between 1935 and 1971, none since.

Surprised it's been so long since we last met. Obviously our fortunes have faltered over the last 20 years or so, but I'd always though of Oldham as like Bury, Rochdale, Stockport etc - Just one of the general Manchester lower league perennials. Thinking back, the only time I've been to Boundary Park was a quick turn-around in the car park back in the 90s, when we asked for directions to the football ground en-route to Bury and got pointed towards the wrong one!

Oldham were founder members of the Premier League remember, and they only dropped into the bottom division in 2018 - four years ago.
When we were in the third tier for that one season (Valentines Day Milner Wrexham etc etc) they were in the second tier having just been relegated from the Premier League.
This game is on a Barnsley level more than a Stockport level.

I meant in relation to since they dropped out of the Premier League and when we could’ve been in the same league as them, not ever.

I was 15 then and into my second or third season of going to watch the Blues regularly. The only other game I went to there was a league Cup tie against Birmingham City in January 1990 ( it was bloody cold!) during Oldham's run to the final.

I’m sure there was a season in the late 1990s when Oldham looked almost certain to be relegated into our division and we were starting to look forward to going there, only for them to win the last couple of games and pull off a great escape. That’s as close as I can remember us being to playing a competitive game against them in the last few decades.

Noticed on their fans forum a bloke mentioning then beating us 5-0 in a league game, my memory tells me it was 6-0, it poured down all game, blew a gale, and to cap it off I was thumped in the side of the head by some thug on the way back to the coach. Remember it like it was yesterday and now I have my bus pass, bloody hell!

Not Oldham related but I remember the away F A cup game at Southend in 1977 which we won 4-0 ,we were in the away end celebrating the win when as soon as the final whistle blew the home fans came over the wall ran across the pitch and jumped in on top of us. They chased us all around the pitch until the police finally got involved😂.

We played Coventry in a cup game years ago and they invaded the Sealand Road end during the game, carnage.

Heard from a mate of mine that the summit pub is decent for away fans if anyone can confirm? He lives nearby in Royton so trusty source.
I’ll be on an early train to Manchester then the tram or overground up from Victoria. Can’t wait for this, finally get to go a proper ground for a change.
Let’s take 1.5k blues and then get Ipswich away next round.

I watched my first Chester win against Oldham which was also the first match I saw played under floodlights back in 1962. Chester won 1 0 and Mervyn Jones got the goal I think.

I remember that game Mervin Jones who was not very tall headed the winner from an acute angle in the Kop end.

One of the few goals we scored that season 51 league goals in 46 games but we did only concede 66 finishing 4th from bottom (info courtesy of the oracle by Chas Sumner)
