I honestly think that if we keep this group of young players together and with a litte more added firepower, we could go close to winning, this league over the space of the next 18 months. Just to add that not only do we need the firepower (or after last night a bit of nouse/willingness to take a shot) but we need to think about our reliance on loans and have a strategy for replacing them (as eventually they are bound to go back to their clubs). A third of our regular starting team are loans and so far this season, for example, I think you can make a reasonable argument that Coates has been our best player. Just clarifying - you’re not classing Coates as a loan are you? He came on a free transfer after his release by Stoke at the end of last season. Of last nights 18-man squad only the keeper and the left back are on loan (two players). Don’t think anyone who wasn’t in the squad is on loan either? Pretty sure Tyrer and Coulton are the only loanees in the entire 25-man squad so certainly not “a third of our regular starting X1”. Plus, one of those two is here for the entire season (Tyrer). I don’t think the problem is as bad as you make out.

One thing that did make me laugh last night before getting in was the herd mentality of those just getting in the queue for the main stand as it snaked down and around the car park, and nobody was queuing outside the turnstile right next to it..
Gates opened up, and got straight in to my usual spot, without queuing in THAT.
Also, as not seen it mentioned elsewhere, did the person who needed medical attention get seen to and are they OK? Heard a lot of commotion in there with what looked like police going in? What happened?

Heard a lot of commotion in there with what looked like police going in? What happened? He was pretty much a few people down from me and he was able to walk out but he was in agony clutching his stomach, not a doctor but last time I seen that it was someone’s appendix. Our stewards were pretty slow as they were too busy watching the game but an absolute fucking disgrace the police come in and start filming it - absolute shit houses. All there for the double time as usual. The lads a regular too so hopefully he’s back safe at the Deva for Saturday. Also, as a side note, the amount of people getting in for free at half time was a farce. I went the loo and a good 10-15 lads were walking in laughing about how easy that was and saving a £10er. Steward was a young girl so she’s not going to exactly say anything. Unsure why we open them doors for the dirty smokers anyway. As per other posts, be nice if we convert even 250 fans into regulars….

Think we’ve got an answer as to why the attendance was announced as less than it looked - especially if that was happening all over the ground at half-time. It’s common knowledge we let people out at half time so wouldn’t surprise me if absolutely loads were hanging about waiting for the opportunity. Also hope the lad is OK, and agree the coppers were disgusting steaming in filming a guys medical emergency. Scum.

I am fucking depressed today. 2 minutes away. Console yourself with the fact that our club is on the right track again. We performed well in two games against an average NL team (Tollit excepted) , got 3600 for a match and had 5 fa cup games. I'd suggest if we'd been less nervous first 15 minutes of each match, we'd have won. We should be proud of our squad. Couldn't really have asked for more. We've had worse days down there recently.

Did fuck all too when their fans ran on after they scored.

Thought we were superb last night. Oldham obviously had a bit more quality and Tollit is a class act, but we just kept going. Maybe a bit more self belief ...Coates had their full back on toast and I'd love to see him bombing forward more. The cross for Willoughby's goal was top drawer and Weeks is an absolute dynamo. The front two both put in a shift and Williams was outstanding. What a pair we have in him in Burke. We could do with a better left back - unless I'm missing something Coulton looked a bit out of his depth. Overall, just gutted we couldn't hold on for a win we deserved. Great to see the place bouncing and a decent (but quiet) away following. Somehow we simply have to get back to playing national football and we will enjoy more nights like that. Couple of negatives - we've got to get that south stand open. Embarrassing that we are at capacity with 3600 in the stadium. And 25 minutes in a queue for a pint of crap lager is not acceptable. Why not just have a bottle or can bar instead of one guy pulling pints?

Just seen Unsworth after game interview. Says he needs more horrible nasty players in his team. Think the player who scored in the 119 minute meets your requirement amongst many others in your team. Never saw a team so bad to confront the referee. So bad it caused a hand bag situation between our players which we never do just because of there antics.

He wants tough & courageous players which is interesting as all his players did was roll around on the floor at the slightest touch like a bunch of muppets. Only one of their players I have respect for is the keeper as he took a barrage of abuse last night & had things thrown at him & never complained once just got on with it.

Yes brilliant goalkeeper. What about a green card shown to players who consistently argue with officials so it gives a warning to them and the crowd the next time they do it they get booked. Also if 3 green cards are shown to a team the captain is shown a red card.

Not reasonable at moment to give yellow because it would lead to 9 a game for each side quiet quickly.

Do it in Hockey and other sports. Football (FA UEFA) needs to get a grip of this without ruining the game by giving yellows.

Evening all,
Just to confirm that the club have been in touch with family & friends of the two fans that took ill during last night's game.
Happy to report that both are safe and recovering, and we wish them well on behalf of everyone at the club.

Also if 3 green cards are shown to a team the captain is shown a red card. The North West Counties League use a sin bin for 10 minutes similar to that used in Rugby League and Union for players who give dissent, as do numerous other leagues at grass roots level. www.thefa.com/news/2019/jul/29/sin-bins-launched-for-2019-20-season-290719In games I've watched over the last 2 seasons this does seem to cut the dissent down.

That was really hard to take - no point pretending otherwise.
Cannot fault the performance of anybody, they fought so hard and showed real quality, but I am so fed up of being the heroic losers. It's not a dig at anyone, we're making great strides but Jesus, it's draining supporting this club at times. Cruel.
The next two games are vital. We need to stop being unlucky and start putting teams away. If we're being critical last night, we had 2 or 3 clear chances to pull away last night and weren't ruthless enough. We really need 6 points to show we mean business.
Really hard to pick a MOTM, they all gave absolutely everything. You'd be hard pushed to look past Kev Roberts again, he was absolutely superb. However, I'd go for Coates - what a find he is.

Agree with you about Coates it would be in our best interests to get him on a longer deal as other clubs will come sniffing towards the end of the season.

Cal said last night that it could be classed as our biggest game of the season and I tend to agree. We need to keep the buzz going and start picking up a few wins. I also think now could be a good time to use a little of the FA Cup money and freshen up the squad, certainly at left back and up front. It would be a bit naive if we think we can rely on the current squad to see us through until the end of the season.
