Scored a hat-trick for Scarborough last season. Not bad for a left back!

Reckon both will be gone in the summer to be honest, but not sure this lad is a direct rival to Taylor at least. Pretty sure he played more centrally for Scarborough - where he did very well - so if I had to hazard a guess at where he’ll fit in here, I’d say on the left side of a back three.

Cal mentioned he was something different in terms of being able to play left centre back, so suggests Woodthorpe back to left back. Heywood a miles better backup to Woodthorpe than Taylor.

I'm a bit surprised we haven't already seen Heywood given a go at centre back - he's tall enough, though he needs to bulk out a bit for that position.

Ironic that this thread and the very first post was triggered by the Joel Taylor signing and the excitement that triggered. As others have said above I hope this means we keep Heywood and ship out Taylor. Taylor turned out to be shadow of former self and has been given far more than his fair share of time to turn that around imho.

Hard to see where he fits in when we've got Heywood, Woodthorpe and Taylor as all left footed defenders, but as many have said it may signal the end of Taylor. Just hasn't really worked out for him 2nd time around, I can't think of many games where he's stood out as playing really well, he's either alright or pretty bad. He's never really stood out as Calum style player.....Calum usually likes his defenders to be all out defenders and if they can play a bit too then that's a bonus. Burke and Williams bring the ball out of defence with increasing regularity, and Coates is good at getting up and down the line, but all those guys can properly defend whereas Taylor was always more of an attack minded full back with defending a bit of an afterthought. The problem with Taylor is that his attacking play has let him down this season, particularly with delivery into the box, therefore it's not like he can compensate for iffy defending with being a valued part of our attacking play. He's not really performing well in any aspect of the game, and to be honest just doesn't seem to be enjoying his football. You do wonder when players leave to play higher up if they still have the hunger if they end up coming back. No matter what league we're in next season, it's hard to make an argument for him being retaining - my guess is that he'll end going to Radcliffe to try and rediscover his mojo with Bern and Jonno, who have always been big champions of his ability.
