Fair enough. I had realised after I posed the question that this occurred during Tony Durkin's stewardship.

Well he can organise a season ticket campaign as we are close to 1100 season ticket sales, have beaten last years total and are heading for record sales!! I wonder how many free u12 season tickets are included in this figure Around 125 I would estimate.

Have you really dug up posts from a couple of months ago? Let's wait and see what happens this season. I prefer to evaluate what happens on and off the pitch during the season, not the off season. There is no doubt that McCarthy has a better squad to pick from, and that is what has led to season ticket sales. The pressure is now on McCarthy to prove that he is a football manager and to Maguire to make the right decisions through this season.

You are very right in saying that every club needs a secretary and I, for one, think it's the single most important role at a football club. Calvin Hughes was doing this role for free for a number of years and for much longer weekly hours than the current incumbent. Why did we feel the need to replace Hughes and start paying a wage to his replacement to work less hours? Did the board feel that this was good value for our money at the time? Sadly, it's not my place to answer whether it was right or wrong to make the role a paid job as it was well before my time, but seeing as the role has evolved and changed since 2010 and I would imagine the role is far more rigorous now, otherwise I am sure every club in this in this division, and indeed above, would probably utilise voluntary staff for the role, then I assume there is an element of justification in it. Again, whether Calvin was going more hours or not is not for me to assume. As it is, Tony Allen is doing the job now, and I for one had no issues in my dealings with him. I agree, while the rest of the club infrastructure is developing then the position of Club Secretary has probably evolved and possibly requires a higher level of commitment. Calvin would probably be the ideal person to explain how he was replaced. Whether he does or not is not is purely down to him.
