Good crowd of 2,233 today, which was the same as last week. Any anoraks out there know if we’ve had the exact same attendance twice in a row? We had numerous exact same attendances (zero) in a row during lockdown, Rio...

Anyone know who the "celebrity" is at the Harry Mac end of the East stand? Loads of youngsters taking photos with someone He was in the corner of the West for ages too, unless it’s the West you meant? My lad and his mates (who I brought down with their parents for the first time thanks to the club’s brilliant offer today for local junior teams) were desperate for photos with him. He’s some FIFA-playing YouTube star from Venezuela with 2 million subscribers (and many million more viewers) called “Futcrunch”. They got loads of photos with him which was brilliant and they all enjoyed the performance and readily too. All you want for nine first-time visitors. Us adults had no clue but all the kids treated him like Messi. Guessing there’ll be some sort of “I WATCHED A MATCH IN TWO COUNTRIES!!” type YouTube vid coming. Was sitting in front of me for the first 15 minutes, had no idea who he was but loads of kids were totally starstruck. His videos get millions of viewers it seems, last one was about Ronaldo and has 8.8 million views.

Much better that today, the tempo and closing down from the first whistle was like night and day compared to the first half against Rushall. Peers was excellent, made a massive difference up top with his work rate, movement and ability to keep hold of it. Gloucester were abysmal, would struggle in the league below on that performance but full credit to our players today, they were at it from the off and 3-0 flattered Gloucester. Onwards and upwards to Tuesday night against Buxton!

Yeah had to tell my lads teammates that this isn’t normal! Hopefully they’re so starstruck they come back again twice next week in the hope there’ll be some other YouTuber there…
Not bad for the first ever visit to a Chester game for a lot of the kids.

All I’ve got to say is if you think we looked good with Peers up top wait until Caton is back. There’s a reason other teams called us very strong title contenders when they were both playing. Peers being a proper shithouse style of player was all over their back 4 the whole game today. Exactly what we don’t have without him playing. At this level of football it is exactly the player you need to ensure you keep the defenders guessing. Hall doesn’t do anywhere near the sort of job that peers does and that has shown over the last couple of weeks. Nothing against hall btw. I love hall, it just isn’t his game. Hall is better with the ball at his feet running at players rather than challenging for headers and never winning any regardless of his big frame. Anyway buzzing with that today, onto Tuesday night if it is going to be on 🤞🏻

Not only do I fancy us to bounce back, I fancy us to do it in some style. 3-0, Peers with two and Murray with one. Had the world at my feet at 2-0, but I won’t begrudge my best mate for scoring. Infinitely better performance than in recent weeks - the best we’ve played for quite some time, in fact. Murray gets my MOTM, as the standout in what was a good showing from the whole team, but I was also particularly pleased to see Taylor playing with more confidence and looking more like the player he was in his first spell. I do like this 3ATB system, and we always seem to play well on the rare occasion it comes out - just a shame we don’t really have the defensive depth to employ it as our primary formation every week.

Ahaha forgot to add, Glendon and Weeks can’t even play together apparently. 7 league goals for Glendon now lads funnily enough is our top scorer!!!

Very much improved today. That was the response I was hoping for last Sat. That said, Gloucester are prob the worst side we’ve had so far. It’ll be much tougher on Tue. Wish we hadn’t taken our foot off the gas After the third and got a couple more. We were good for it and I can see goal difference being important when deciding play off places.
Almost to a man it felt like we were giving it 100%. The exception is Taylor. His lazy, static and negative performances drive me nuts. Someone needs to tell him to watch Coates on the other side and do that. Taylor did it in his first stint with us. Now he seems to have forgotten how to run and expects others to do his defending for him and clear up his mistakes. Wish Cal would tell him to pull his finger out. If he discovered his old form, he and Coates will rip the opposition to shreds down the wings and give us the width we need.
Peers coming back showed how desperate we were for a physical attacker who knows where the goal is. Cal’s interview said he wouldn’t play Tue. I hope that’s gamesmanship. Would like to know what the score is with Caton. Him and Peers back and firing on all cylinders will be the difference between being real promotion candidates and play off also-rans (again).

I’ll happily predict us easily scoring three plus goals on Tuesday!

Really good today, we gradually got more and more control of the game, and in the end it could have been 5-6. Three at the back really seems to suit Williams and Burkenbauer. Big bonus having Peers back, he wins a lot and allows the midfield to get forward. Hopefully this is the start of another good run.

Peers looked sharpe today but for the first 40 minutes he was totally isolated up top with Glendon and Murray playing fat too deep and offering him no support, all seemed to change just before half time when we created a few chances and the goal came at a great time, they were very poor going forward and we could have played without a keeper and they still wouldn’t have scored. This system can be positive but in order for that to happen we need to be more positive and get players in and around the box.

I thought he possibly played better than he usually does but that is a pretty low base against which to measure . Fact is he is a shadow of his former self and we need his former self on the pitch. Also it is not like it is a skill deficit issue. He just needs to massively increase his work rate. Would love to see how his match stats (distance covered etc) compare to, say, Coates.

He was better and more himself in the 2nd half once the shackles had come off. He was probably our poorest player in the first half. The fact that Woodthorpe has now been brought back into the squad, hopefully it'll spur him on to not lose his place

I don't get this idea that we created little in the first half or played the ball laterally. We were incisive from the off, especially for the first twenty minutes or so. The problem was that little dropped for us.
The fact that Gloucester started to resort to fouls and timewasting just highlighted that it was just a matter of time before something paid off for us. I'm glad it happened before half time and fell to my man of the match, Iwan Murray. After that it was just a matter of how many.
I can't remember Gloucester having much more than their half chance early in the first half.

Good to see some width today. In our home games against the lower teams, there’s absolutely no reason why Taylor and Coates can’t get right up the pitch like they did today. It stretches defences and Peers works the centre halves really well - he was outstanding today.
I thought the first 45 was an improvement, but we sometimes lost our nerve and went a bit direct a bit soon. Getting Weeks on the ball with two wing backs is only going to cause havoc for teams at the Deva and sometimes it’s about having the bravery to try and find him to feet. When we did it, that’s where our chances came from.
Overall, much better. Gloucester were very poor and offered nothing but I think we should take credit for that. Pinned them back and sustained waves of pressure. Cal told us that would happen when Peers came back and he was spot on. We definitely deserved to get a goal before half time and it took a lot of pressure off. The only downside today is we didn’t get 7 or 8 because we could easily have done so!
Hard to choose MOTM, but it would certainly have come from any of Murray, Glendon or Peers for me.
