Absolutely nothing to do with the club. The kiosks are run by an external contractor who pays the staff (they aren't volunteers) and food costs and takes the profit. They pay the club an amount, almost like a rent. Not for the club to spend thousands for someone else to make the money. If they think chips in the ground would be an earner, its on them to provide the equipment to cook them. Mind you, if someone wants chips at the match surely they can buy them from the GWG van and bring them in? Had a Bovril last night and it was fine, but I guess you can't mess that up. The fan zone would have really helped, giving people the chance to choose from a range of food and drink and sit and have them with their friends before and after the match. Doesn't help that the bar is a bit bland now, really doesn't have the feel of a social club. It isn’t “absolutely nothing to do with the club” though is it? The kitchen facilities are provided by the club. Agree on the bar though, you wouldn’t have a clue you were at a football ground if you woke up inside it. When we first started we upgraded the electrics, put new sinks in etc and repaired / painted the kiosks as it was urgent maintenance that had been avoided by the previous tenant. Some of the equipment within them may be a legacy of them days (fridges, pie warmers etc), but the club would rightly refuse to buy chip fryers etc for the vendor, as it is them who will profit from them. The vendors aren't great, but nobody can level that at the club for me. They were probably promised the earth and then got this half arsed, constantly understocked service. As for "the Cestrian" / Blues Bar, if I want to watch football in a soulless bar, I'll go to the Leopard. Its cheaper, I can get a seat easier and its easier to get served. The fact that there is more Chester FC memoribilia in the Chichester ( ) than the Blues Bar says a lot. The live music / DJs seem to have stopped too unless I'm mistaken.

Pretty bang on with that last paragraph - I also noticed that the music had disappeared and wondered whether it had anything to do with the new proprietors. By all means, I’ve never particularly been a regular customer at the Blues Bar, so perhaps it’s not my place to comment, but I really struggle to see the wisdom behind converting it from a somewhat basic, but charming, clubhouse to a generic ‘sports bar’ seemingly aimed towards a different demographic than the one to which it will always cater - not to mention the hike in drinks prices which never represented the best value for money in the first place. It’s not like you’re ever going to get people going for nights out down Bumpers Lane ffs! I can’t imagine this new ‘happy hour’ offer, where you can buy a drink for a more normal price if you arrive at the ground three hours before kickoff, is going to do much to boost custom either.

Thought that. ‘Happy Hour’ £4 a pint. 🤔 Rather stay in town and pay the same or a little bit more.

The only benefit of having the restrictions at the moment is that the 'caterers' aren't getting a penny by ripping people off by selling terrible warm cans of beer.
This lot who run the bar and kiosks need to be binned off at the end of the season.
We'll never make any decent money unless we set up our own catering company and run this ourselves. We wouldn't rely on volunteers to run the kiosks we would actually pay them a decent wage for the hours that they do.

Totally unacceptable in my opinion that the bar has been gutted of all things Chester FC.
You can go in the clubhouse at Heswall or West Kirby FC and you at least know it belongs to the club.
I think it's very important, stuff like this. Clubs won't get anywhere without a sense of belonging and identity, and if we can't even get that at our own ground.

Funny - earlier this season you were ripping into me for promoting the discounted drinks for season ticket holders on matchdays at Goals across the road, said about taking money from our club etc. At least you know you’re in a football-related bar at Goals. Good to see people coming round to what I’ve been saying since the summer.

Good? News.
Sat in the main stand today first time in decades. Food available at least until the second half. Good quality stuff as well. My brother was surprised that we had the brand of pies (I forget the name) as they are better than run of the mill stuff.
Maybe as the crowd was a bit lower then food availability wasn’t an issue?
Maybe someone has read this thread and taken note?
Probably just a coincidence.

Same reason they charge for sachets of sauce. They don't appear to in the Harry Mac.

Why is instant coffee 2.50 a cup, scandalous 42p VAT 20p Coffee 15p Milk 10P Cup 30P Wages 50p Rent to club inc power 83p Profit All guesses (apart from the VAT) 33% profit on an instant coffee is wild. The loaded fries were good when they come out in the van, but now the quality has wavered and £7.50 for barely cooked frozen Costco chips with cheese and bacon looks a rip off.

To be fair for an item to be £2:50 Inc VAT the base price has to be £2:08 how you arrive at that figure is speculative

Things are pretty expensive from mobile caterers.
Wouldn't be that surprised to pay £2 - £2.50 for a coffee myself. I'd just like it not to be badly mixed Maxwell House or something.

I can feel a PHD coming on for someone on the price of coffee at football grounds! That would require too much research for a PHD.
