I thought he was still struggling a bit injury wise.

If we could manage losing any player it would be Sam Hughes. Don;t get me wrong, great player but we have adequate cover in that position. losing Alabi for example would have far more impact.

If I was Hughes I'd see out the rest of the Season. Clubs are more likely to want to sign a young defender pre-season, and as we found out with Kingsley James, a tribunal fee is likely to be much lower than a transfer fee. Swansea would be my best bet, luck at the chances Oli has had for them.

I imagine someone like Swansea would chance a 70k bid and loan him back to us for the rest of the season. The best thing for him is regular football with us for the rest of the season.

Sorry lads, just had it confirmed it's not true.
One of the lads on a wind up, and I bit (again).

With our season basically over now, I would rather see Sam Hughes leave today for a decent amount than us have the luxury of having him for the rest of the season whilst we float about in mid-table, for him to then go for peanuts in the Summer through a tribunal.
As has been said he's a great player but we have adequate cover at centre back, especially with Killock returning from injury.

Should Hughes go to a tribunal we should still get a decent fee with him being an academy product, its not a Kingsley James situation.

I accept it's not the same as Kingsley James, but the amount we would get in the summer will surely be nowhere near what we'd get if he were to be signed today under contract?

I'd be surprised if he isn't sold, but it seems to be late in the day. I'd love him to stay and progress here but I think the club need the money and the player wants to progress.

don't think he has been missed as much as I thought he would perhaps due to playing out of natural position

How much of the £70K would actually come to the club. 20% would go in VAT and his agent would want a cut. I think that's why it's imperative that the adds ons are good.

Hate to see him go but at the same time hope we get a bid for him today. Lad is going places and rather see a deal that could benefit us in the future

I'm not sure if he's even got an agent, I think its his Dad that represents him. But £70k with a 10% sell on clause would be worth while if we could get that.

I thought Steve Burr was his agent, or was that a wind-up? 20% would be a better sell-on!

I have only heard there have been scouts from villa, Swansea, Burnley and other championship clubs, but I haven't come across Barnsley.

They've probably got him to sign by bombarding him with emails

looks like sam is staying till at least the end of season

As it stands, it looks like Chester will be keeping squad together for the remainder of season. No bids lodged as yet & time running out.

Great news. We are punching above our weight. We may have only really signed one player, but the extension of Macca's contract and retaining vassell and Lloyd just shows where we are coming. Great bit of business.
