a 3-5-2 formation of the below at home could work, especially with the width and pace up front
Stanway
Williams - Edwards - Burke
Coates - Weeks - Whitehouse - Glendon - Taylor
Caton - Hall

Think Boston .You need Earl or Roberts as the ball winner.

I think a bit too much is being made of whether Weeks and Glendon can play in the same team. In 2020/21 we were third when the season stopped with them both in there alongside Brad Bauress or Luke Clark. The next season was bad, yeah, but there were many reasons for it and I think Glendon has been a bit scapegoated, seem to remember him picking up a few knocks after Watson came in which couldn’t have helped. Another issue I always thought that with Lacey behind them, as likeable as he was, always seemed really out of sync with the other two and didn’t have the legs to keep a solid shape with them.
When it comes to a lightweight midfield, well Murray slotted back in fine last season, in fact look at the midfield for the Scarborough away game (our best performance of the season), midfield of Roberts, Weeks and Murray. Whitehouse can sit deeper as well, Kettering away with where the midfield was he, Lynch and Murray for example.
Anyway, we’ve got a good variety and they’ll be different tests. Calum will have a plan no doubt.

Agree that Glendon has been made a scapegoat. He’s every bit as good as Declan Weeks (who is an incredible footballer for this level) - there’s a reason he was Cal’s first signing.
With a proper system and structure, those two will be unplayable.
POTS next season.

Time will tell who plays and who captains. Personally, I’d choose Roberts as captain. But, I don’t recall the last time we had so many quality midfielders and competition to choose from.

According to Runcorn Linnets their keeper Danny Taberner has accepted an offer from a club in higher division. I just wonder.......

That might change if Stanway doesn't show good form and needs competition, but if Stanway gets injured you can always find an emergency keeper on loan. Would rather use a space on the bench for outfield players. It's a tough ask bringing in a second keeper and expecting him to sit on his arse and warm up Stanway all season, so chances are if we signed one we'd only send out on loan again anyway.

I'm not too sure whether Jiff (Joseph Smith) has been retained. I know Cal thinks a lot of him and he got plenty of experience at Ashton Athletic last year. He may be the emergency/back up keeper for the squad this next season.

Doesn't mean he played badly, to be fair. The goalkeeper is the last line of defence.

Again I’m not entirely sure whether he’ll still be here next season, but Joe Beswick is the best goalkeeper our academy has produced for several years. He was effectively second choice for most of the last season, so I see no reason why he couldn’t be again. I’m also not convinced that we actually need someone of Tyrer’s calibre to be able to compete at the top of this league. Apart from Jameson at York, I can’t think of any other promoted sides in recent years who’ve boasted a genuinely top-class keeper - simply having a decent shot-stopper, who doesn’t lose you any more points than he wins, ought to be enough if you’ve got a strong defence. Stanway fits that bill and then some - remember early last season, when some people actually wanted him to start over Tyrer? - and he’ll have arguably the best back four in the division in front of him, so I’m not particularly worried about how we’ll fare in terms of goals conceded in the coming campaign.

Disagree on this. A commanding keeper (not just a shot stopper) should be a top priority. Makes a massive difference when you're hanging on for a 1-0 and the keeper has the confidence to claim a cross rather than flap or stay on his line and have the ball pinging around.

We need a new signing early this week to give us all a lift after a miserable week, any chance this might happen??

I imagine Zak is going to be getting plenty of game time too, him and Hall battling for a place up front. It's great we have more strength in depth under Cal than in previous times and can rotate the squad a bit. Iwan Murray is another one who can be a really useful player.

With a squad of 19, I think we'll see one more through the door before the start of the season with room left to add someone if needed throughout the season. After Tyrer's successful loan hopefully we could get a prem player on loan of some sort

I’d say we’re four players away - Kenyon staying, Waters returning, a more prolific centre-forward, and another orthodox winger (maybe see if we can bring Nmai back).

Just don’t see the fascination with Waters? Doesn’t get near the starting XI or much of a sniff as a squad player? More out of loyalty to the lad than anything else - Cal’s spent the last year talking about him as if he were still our player, and he was at the recent awards night where he actually told me how much he’s looking forward to getting back out on the pitch for us next season. Agree that we don’t need another left-back, but he’s also comfortable playing on the right or even higher up the pitch - anyone remember his masterful performance at Guiseley playing RW?
