Following trouble at their game on Saturday the Scunthorpe chairman, who had cancelled bans issued under the previous owner, has made the following statement.
Statement from David Hilton
Scunthorpe United FC
The Iron Hour Podcast has this evening spoken with David Hilton, regarding today's match and he issued us with the following statement regarding fan behaviour.
All cctv is currently being looked at in great detail and the supporters who today decided to yet again throw objects onto the pitch will be issued lifetime banning orders as previously warned. It will be publicised with images showing exactly who they are. Information will be passed on to the clubs we visit with our recommendation that they are refused entry.
I’ve been more than fair lifting banning orders and giving people second chances but it has become a constant theme and it needs to be stopped. Enough is enough. The
Culprits show no respect for the club, the players, the staff or fellow supporters and they will now be treated accordingly because of it.
Alcohol consumption is not an excuse.
We will publicise the perpetrators imminently across official channels. These people are not welcome at our club as they are clearly trying to damage the very foundations we are building the clubs future on.
He is happy to publish photos so those attempting to break the ban can be identified. For reasons unknown we don't.

Cant argue with any of that press release - and agree we should be publishing photos as they are doing.

Wasn’t me who first raised it, I just remember it being mentioned a couple of months ago. A bit of nous and tact from the club would’ve helped on this occasion.

Whilst many would agree with you on that, it’s interesting that you’ve raised it in a thread about him clamping down on trouble-makers and calling on us to be doing the same.

I'm no legal expert but I'm not sure it's as simple as publishing pictures of people. I wouldn't necessarily think the right example to follow is that of Scunthorpe's somewhat maverick owner.

Let's not start a witch hunt ,I think quite enough banning orders have been issued Quite enough to allay the circa 30k hole in this season's finances? Quite enough to excuse the fact that we're under SAG restrictions until November at the earliest? Quite enough to ensure similar never happens again? Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that everybody that went on the pitch deserves to be banned, but until every person that threw objects at the Brackley crowd, smashed up the supporters' coach and broke the jaw of one of our own has been identified and dealt with accordingly, then 'quite enough' just doesn't cut it - Especially when there's quite a few still vocal on social media about how they'll do it again next time we 'get beat' (which suggests they are supporting the wrong team to begin with!)

Pubs do it though with people they have banned and share the information with other pubs in their local pubwatch group

Scunny have swapped a bad owner for a criminal one, something we can empathise with Good club with proper fans that deserve more, sounds like they're screwed either way though. There's no way the new owner can afford the stadium and the prev owner seems desperate to cash in on the land. A ground share may be a short term fix but it feels like it won't be long until you hear about players not being paid, it has all the hallmarks of heading that way

Why are people obsessed with minor things like this at Chester and other clubs? Literally obsessed with it. Half the people who rant probably don’t even go the games just see it as an opportunity to have a moan. Worry about the football instead

Whats interesting about me raising it in here? Its a thread about Scunthorpe fans, and I've put something that will massively concern their fans. It seems to me you suggesting I don't want our trouble makers banned? That seems to be what you are insinuating in your smug little way. Instead of beating around the bush, find me a post where I say that? Nasty little piece of work you, spreading shit and untruths about anybody who calls you out for anything. Add to that the constant little digs at board members who volunteer their time for free. Maybe if you stand at the AGM this time you will get more votes than previous and get elected, see how the grass is on their side of the fence eh?
