What do you think we’ll need from the final 5 games?
3 wins and 2 draws? 4 wins and a loss?
Looking at the table, South Shields and Spennymoor could put us down to 10th with their games in hand so maybe just win all 5 to lock up the playoffs.

Three wins and a draw should be enough. Whether we will achieve that though I’m not so sure…

3 wins would hopefully be enough, Buxton, Gloucester and Darlington. But we never win at Gloucester and if Darlington come wanting 1 point to stay in the league we probably wouldn't be able to break them down.
On the other hand we nearly always get something at Brackley and beat Alfreton at home.
It's going to be an interesting few weeks.

3 wins minimum looking at the table, honestly can't see it happening. Out of our hands now because we will have to rely on other teams dropping points even if we win.

We need to win the lot to my mind, which means we’ll fail given our form. I’ve accepted another year in this league and hope we (Cal) can learn from it and make a good push for play offs next year.
Obviously I hope we do get into the playoffs but I really can’t see that happening now.

How on earth are we going to win 3 or 4 from 5 given our barn door syndrome in front of goal lately? What’s going to suddenly change to make it happen? Hope so but don’t see it happening. Someone will no doubt be able to tell us what our current success rate is compared to shots at goal at present which will paint a grim picture I’m sure. We haven’t scored for I think getting towards 400 minutes of football . Massive turnaround needed hope it happens as I like most am sick of this league but recent form makes me think it isn’t going to happen.

3 wins and a draw should definitely put us in the playoffs with our good goal difference. Don’t see us getting it mind

Or 630 minutes. 2 of them were in the same game. I’m clinging on to any shred of hope we can do this. Big showing at Buxton needed. Got my ticket and it’s my missus birthday so we’re staying over in the crescent hotel on the Friday and I’ve blackmailed her with a spa afternoon while I am subject to the football equivalent of being water boarded

Moldcestrian thanks for the stats Enjoy your overnight stay I hope we are not relying on how much your missus enjoyed her pampering afternoon as the only bright spot of the day 😂

It’s time for the cliche of taking it 1 at a time. I’d like Cal to announce that he’s going to throw caution to the wind and set us up for expansive football. We have the players to do it (in fact it would suit the squad better I think). Rather than setting up to not concede let’s have the attitude that we only need to score one more than the other team - I think we can take that chance - after all, our defence is very solid.

"Computer say's no", he's to stubborn to change it now, 38 draws in 101 games says sets up not to lose on the premise we might get the win, same bullshit as southgate and like england, were not entertaining to watch, plus callum's post match analysis are a tough listen, more similarities with southgate

All this talk of statistics is bollox the only statistic that matters to me is 47 goals in 41 games and that has to drastically improve over the next 5 games we can concede 4 or 5 every game as long as we score 5 or 6

Done some more quick PPG calculations, and if every team were to replicate their form from the last five games for the rest of the season, we’d finish 12th. Curzon would occupy the last playoff spot with 74 points - so if this is anything to go by, we’ll likely need to win four of our last five if we want to avoid having to rely on other sides faltering.

In our games this season. If we had not hit the post or bar and the opposition goalkeeper and defence hadn't made brilliant saves and if our players had not missed free headers and shot wide or high from goal scoring chances and missed or had penalties saved AND we had converted ALL those chances we would be safe in the playoffs, ar least vying to be 2nd. That is basically our season.

The top 13 teams will all think they are in with a chance but all have to play at least 2 of the others so most of them will drop points. Almost impossible to guess what will happen by 20 April.
Tuesday 26 March
Spennymoor v Scunthorpe
Friday 29 March
Scarborough v Warrington
South Shields v Spennymoor
Monday 1 April
Brackley v Tamworth
Chester v Alfreton
Curzon Ashton v South Shields
Saturday 6 April
Alfreton v Curzon Ashton
Boston v Brackley
Scarborough c Spennymoor
Scunthorpe v Hereford
Tamworth v Warrington
Saturday 13 April
Alfreton v Spennymoor
Boston v Scarborough
Brackley v Chester
Tamworth v South Shields
Warrington v Hereford
Saturday 20 April
Hereford v Boston
Scarborough v Alfreton

We absolutely have to be going to Buxton to win the game. Confidence is on it's arse at the moment but that can change with 1 result. Lose that one then it's another game to add to a miserable run of form, we lose more ground in the play off race and I'd struggle to envisage us suddenly turning it for the remaining games. Need our experienced players and big characters to come out and show some balls and that they are still fighting for this - do that and the fans will respond. In fairness to the fans, I'm amazed we've managed to sustain good crowds and good followings on the road when it's been largely turgid for the last 3 months - it's one thing losing belief as a fan that we can make the play offs but at least most are still turning up on match days. My main worry for not making the play offs is that the good feeling around Cal being in charge will have evaporated for many, and that'll have a knock on effect when it comes to season ticket sales and Boost the Budget - it's imperative that we get the play offs just to retain the faith in what the management are doing.

10 points needed for me. If we can get 4 minimum over Easter I think we’ll be in a half decent spot, but really shouldn’t have come down to this

My 'handbrake off' preferred selection for Friday:-
Stanway Burke, Williams, Burton, Woodthorpe Roberts Weeks, Whitehouse Thomas (or Murray), Peers, Tollitt
Good strong lads across the back (Mark Wright throwback!), Kev doing his usual job and filling in if a defender bombs on, Weeks and Whitehouse in more free roles in midfield and some width up front. Go out and attack - score more than Buxton to get the 3 points and repeat on Mon, Sat and so on.
