Didn't he score 5 on his debut? In a friendly against a bunch of car mechanics. 5 apearances in real matches and nothing. Not been a big hit with the fans so far.

TBH I wasn't disappointed to lose him. I know he scored most of our goals last season but I always thought he was far too lightweight for a lad his size & he won absolutely nothing in the air.

It appears the situation with JA is rather unfortunate. I spoke with him on a handful of occasions and found his company an absolute pleasure. He was a credit to our club. It seems for whatever reason things have not worked out well for him at Tranmere so far. Regarding the tribunal it may be November before a conclusion is reached if previous evidence is anything to go on.

The way he's playing for Tranmere should make no difference to how much we receive. We gave them a 22-year-old striker who scored 17 goals last season and attracted interest from league clubs. If he's not performing for them, that's their problem.

Pretty sure it doesn't. If he'd scored 20 already they wouldn't give us more would they?

Exactly. Instead of whinging about it like it's someone else's fault, maybe they should look at how they manage young players?
Early days for Alabi yet anyway. I still think he'll have a decent career in the game.

Proves that the grass isn't always greener on the other side hey!
I've got no problem with him wanting to further his career but he's already been at bigger clubs than Chester and Tranmere and not made an impact.
He seemed a very quiet and polite lad, but very much a confidence player and is probably one of a few who benefitted from Macca's arm around the shoulder management.
The tribunal should be based on what he achieved with Chester, not how he is performing at Tranmere. That just doesn't seem fair at all.

I liked Alabi (a decent bloke as well by all accounts and always the first to put his name down for charity/community projects) and he alone pretty much kept us in this League last year. But I do think we have moved on and have more than adequate replacements. Our problems this year do not stem from the forward line. Will be interesting to see what the tribunal pays. He has played a number of games for Tranmere and scored those 5 goals against Lairds. What Tranmere have done to him since he has been there should be irrelevant to the financial payoff we receive for losing our 'star' striker of last year. I did feel it was a bad move for James and was surprised how much my Tranmere fan friends thought he was their big saviour. On his day, he's unplayable but that day isn't as often as an expectant Tranmere crowd will ever want it to be.

Feel sorry for the lad but we need to get our fee. We were turning down bids in the £10-15k range and that was to be the minimum fee.
Have to wonder if he been badly advised by his agent. He could have stayed here but some wally probably stood to gain a few grand out of him and pushed him to move.
Another season here would have done him no harm at all, and us no harm either. Utilised in the right way he did score and make goals for us.

Totally agree, the lad can score goals, why would you not want him back??? I rated him, he lacked service last season but still managed a few goals, he has made a bad move and to be honest i thought he had when he did it!! Gone from playing 90 minutes to next to nothing, must be kicking himself

I'd definitely take him back. I think he's only started on game for them lot so what do they expect.
Send Bell back in January and bring Alabi back as replacement.

Or use his money to sign Bell. A much better prospect for me. Lively, quick and has much better spring.

Agreed. Alabi won absolutely nothing in the air. That's not his strength. His strength is that he's got pace, is good with his back to goal and can finish well. People just see a six-foot, muscular lad and wrongly assume he should be some sort of battering ram centre forward, and it seems like Tranmere are making the same mistake.

I know it's not his bloody strength! But he's far too lightweight for a lad his size as well. Got knocked off the ball far too easily when he was with us IMO.
You're right about his strengths though, he's a decent finisher & pretty quick. Typical poacher.

I just think whatever his weaknesses might be, you can't really argue with 17 goals from a lad in his early 20s, especially playing in a side as poor as we were for most of last season.

Much better player than Bell from what I've seen. Scores for a start. Alabi is not really a target man, who will flick on balls lumped high. His strength is when he has the ball at his feet, or back to goal. He's not great in the air. He's one of those players who wasn't properly appreciated. Some of the stick he got was unbelievable - 17 goals in a poor team speaks for itself.

Also feel sorry for Alabi. He obviously wanted a move up the leagues and preferably back down south, and with the Barnet bid in January and the Wimbledon interest I don't blame him for turning down our contract, he was probably also advised to do so. It would have been worse for him to stall with our offer and then let us down at a later stage, this way we adequately replaced him very quickly.
Obviously the fee must have been a stumbling block for all of these teams and he eventually had to take whatever offer he got. Unfortunately Tranmere is probably the worst place he could have gone, and I think it will set his progress back quite a lot.
I've got no hard feelings towards him at all for the situation, he was a true ambassador for the club last season and his goals kept us in this league. In theory I would have him back in a heartbeat (although I do agree Nyall Bell has better all round play), but in practice we have adequate cover going forward and need to be looking at filling the gaps on the wing and in defence.

If we can't extend Bell's loan in January it might be worth going in for him. By that time the tribunal will have been sorted too. An underrated player here.
