That's not his strength. His strength is that he's got pace, is good with his back to goal and can finish well. People just see a six-foot, muscular lad and wrongly assume he should be some sort of battering ram centre forward, and it seems like Tranmere are making the same mistake. Exactly. Much better player than Bell from what I've seen. Scores for a start. Alabi is not really a target man, who will flick on balls lumped high. His strength is when he has the ball at his feet, or back to goal. He's not great in the air. He's one of those players who wasn't properly appreciated. Some of the stick he got was unbelievable - 17 goals in a poor team speaks for itself. Yeah, I quite liked Alabi. It was strange though in that all the things you assumed he would be good at (powerful, strong in the air, battering ram etc), he wasn't especially good at, yet the things you assumed he wouldn't be strong at (deft finishes) he was good at. The 4 goals against Aldershot especially spring to mind.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to denigrate the lad. He scored 17 in what was a poor side for half the season at least. It's just most of the games I saw him in he seemed incredibly ineffectual but maybe I'm being harsh & that was more down to the system or lack of support. He certainly always worked hard.

It's like he's a good all-round striker who just happens to be 6'7".

there is no way tranmere will pay a fee say £15k and then let him come back on loan to us they will want to off load him and get back the fee they have to pay us by the tribunal i think i recall he signed a 2 year contract there so prospects of him going anywhere on loan seem slight ross hannah also signed 2 year contract so with the forwards we have already no room for a 5th one and is there room for both harry white and alabi in the same team?

He had a terrific purple patch with us, such a physically strong player with an eye for goal too. He went off the boil in the last couple of months and the same level of effort wasn't there. He seems like a confidence player to me, and also took time to bed in with us. Obviously not firing on all cylinders at Tranmere.

Someone asked Mark McGuire for an update at tonight's CFU meeting. There is yet to be an agreement on any fee but Tranmere didn't want to pay anything and tried to claim that he did not develop with us. Likely to go to a tribunal but will be another couple of months away yet.

I've actually always really rated Crouch, but there's a bit of a perception that being a few inches taller than the average centre half means that he should be able to win any and every ball into the box, however aimless it might be.

Peter Crouch also had a very good scoring record for England. Better than 1 in 2 iirc.

I haven't really kept up with JA since his move so I do wonder if Tranmere are trying to play a blinder and are trying to get him on the cheap. So my questions are how many matches has he played and how many minutes has he had on the pitch ? has this given him enough time to bed in with his new team and match time to gel with them ? He is a decent player but just like when he was with us he will need that time before he gets going and I would have him back if it came to that.

So my questions are how many matches has he played and how many minutes has he had on the pitch ? has this given him enough time to bed in with his new team and match time to gel with them ? None of that makes any difference. How Tranmere are using the player and how he is performing for them are irrelevant to what they should pay us. They acquired a young 15-20 goal a season striker from us. Imagine you bought a washing machine in a 'buy now, pay later' plan, and then when you got the bill, said "but I'm hardly using it!". It's not the seller's fault how you've handled the goods. Some information about how tribunal fees are assessed can be found here. The only disappointment I can see if that his slow start at Tranmere suggests any add-ons like appearance fees or sell-on fees are unlikely to be worth anything to us.
