I haven't bought either for quite a few years but I reckon I probably will this year, just wondered what people's thoughts are on which is the better game & why.
Also, since they got rid of the creation centre on FIFA15 you haven't been able to download custom clubs, can you do so PES?

Think this may belong in the off topic section. Fifa for me, though. Haven't played since Fifa 16 but will be getting this new one.

FIFA. Streets ahead. I only play FUT so wouldn't even entertain PES.

I always get both. PES Master League is far superior to FIFAs career mode and I prefer the gameplay on PES. It's less arcadey and feels more authentic. It's a pain in the arse having to download proper badges and kits but once that's done it solves the licensing issue. I do end up playing more of FIFA purely for FUT and that it's easier to find an online game. I'd say if your looking to play a career mode get PES. If your looking to play online get FIFA.

Was a staunch ISS/PES man years ago as it was easily the more authentic game - and the patches (or day-long self-edits) were part and parcel of the fun.
Since about 2010 I've switched to FIFA for the additional game modes and online play.

Pretty much what I thought.
How is the PES career mode better than FIFA's?

Used to play Pro Evo but felt like on the next generation consoles it fell behind Fifa, and I've never gone back to PES since.

Creation Centre on FIFA 15 was outstanding. Didn't buy '16 when I found out it was missing but bought last years effort a few months ago, played it a little bit but there's no real difference I find between '15 and '17 bar updated teams and players (this is on a 360)
I much prefer '15 out of all the versions, the amount of user modified content was fantastic. Great fun playing a custom tournament or champions league style tournament as Airbus or starting a career mode with both user generated Chester and Wrexham sides in League Two.

Pretty much what I thought. How is the PES career mode better than FIFA's? For me, PES has more intelligent AI, meaning when playing the computer the opposition plays more like you'd expect an actual player to play. I find FIFAs AI to be extremely predictable even on the hardest difficulty and each team plays exactly the same way. Also PES has a much more indepth tactical system where you can alter various aspects of your team. Not just formation and then attack or defense like FIFA. Ultimately PES feels like Football Manager but you can actually play games. Where's as FIFAs career mode although it looks to be improved for 18 feels rushed and abit of an after thought as EA focus on the online aspect because that's where the money is.

Al, that's what appealed to me. I love playing FM & trying to take Chester up. Is there no way of adding user created content into either game? That'd probably be the deal breaker for me if I'm honest.
DV, you've sold PES quite well there. I enjoy the odd game online but there's only so many times I can tolerate having the circumstances of my conception questioned by those who are only just learning the finer points in sex education. It's the single player that really attracts me & if that's significantly better in PES...

Biggest decision to be made this week in our newco history and someone puts shite like this on a football forum.
Give me strength.

Behave! I can't control who we appoint can I? Life doesn't stop because we're appointing a new manager you know? There are probably a few people kicking about who don't think that who we appoint is the biggest thing going on in the world.

Yeah I am for real. People dealing with hurricanes in the Caribbean, N. Korea firing missiles over northern Japan, riots in Louisiana, doubt people living in any of those areas gives a shit about who replaces JM. Obviously I do but that doesn't mean I'm going to stop feeding my kids or going to work until there's news.

Always have played FIFA (even from its International Soccer days), between 2005-09 I had both PES and FIFA, but old habits die hard and I've stuck with FIFA. The FIFA 18 demo was unleashed last week and I must say it plays so so well, I think this could be the best FIFA yet, simply for gameplay alone. Tried the Journey story mode last season (though it seems more than a gimmick) and I felt that it was pretty poor. Looks like they are trying to make Career Mode more of an authentic experience this time too with cutscenes for signing players and contract negotiations etc. Don't get me started on Ultimate Team though. I just haven't got the time of day for that mode. Great concept and it's gone down a treat for the majority of FIFA gamers, but it just isn't my cup of tea. So yeah, FIFA for me. And this years edition really is shaping up to be the best one yet.

The new FIFA looks impressive and they actually put more into career mode as well as the new Journey to. From what I've seen there's a new creation centre where you create teams and your own kits! You can even upload sponsors and Club crests. It'll be fun to have Chester on the game again.

Go on then, who's got it? Purchased my copy today and it's bloody brilliant. The gameplay is the slickest it's ever been. Some very nice touches have been made to the Career Mode too (which is the mode I mainly focus on) which is long overdue. The only gripe with the game is the defending. It's pretty much non-existant. A centre forward will skin a defender 9 times out of 10 to create a goalscoring opportunity. Yes, the standing tackle is hard to grasp, but I'm not using that as an excuse as I can time them pretty well. Not had one 0-0 either offline or online.

I've been hammering it this weekend. Definitely favours attackers, I tend to try and keep enough bodies behind the ball so that I'm rarely one on one with an attacker and stand them up until there is a loose touch.

The Jon McCarthy of FIFA from the sounds of it. I'm more Roberto Martinez, great to watch on the ball, play possession football, pass and move, lots of attacking... but can't defend for shit

I was wrong on creating kits and Clubs, it seems during the demo showing the game off in the Summer this was Just a concept. Gutted!
