We love the club, it has been part of my life for 60 years and I'd walk on broken glass to work for the club. But I wonder how attractive the job really is? It looks like the budget is spent, The team look like relegation fodder Very small squad and weak in depth no money available to strengthen Attendances are plummeting The Board is hardly the most professional, it changes every couple of months Fans are wanting the directors out, some calling for McGuire to be sacked There is a 'backroom staff' of dozens
Im not sure we are well enough equipped to attract and then back the quality of manager we need. I hope I'm wrong.

I don't think we should sell ourselves short too much. A managerial position any professional/semi-pro club is sought after. There are, after all, only just over 100 people on the planet who can say they manage a club in the top five divisions.
Also, although most of us are of the opinion that McCarthy was given too long, it does at least show that we have a patient and supportive board rather than a reactive one - something an applicant may take into consideration.

But if someone comes in and turns it around then that's going to look good on their cv. Let's look at the positives.....
Proud history Good stadium/pitch for this level An unbalanced squad but on paper should be performing better, so there is potential to squeeze something out of them Passionate fan base who will love you if you do well. If we're doing ok we should get gates over 2k which not many can say in this league Community stuff is in the best shape its been in for a while Calls for McGuire to be sacked are ridiculous - he's got loads of sponsorship in and does seem to be trying to make us more professional but its a slow process. Patient board, so you're likely to get a good crack at this job rather than the Southport policy The finances aren't the best but then again we have no debt so whatever we manage to generate can go into the budget. A good cup run would help massively! I'd prefer to look positively and advertise it as a challenge, taking a low budget and doing well with it.

I think its a good job, should be able to stay up with that squad and after this season can reallocate budget to make more balanced squad and hopefully bring bigger crowds for rets of the season

It's a fantastic opportunity, the squad is small but infrastructure is in place as mentioned above. Our volunteers are amazing and work wonders behind the scenes. As co owners if the CFU asked all exisiting members to put an extra contribution per month say 10 pound on average we could assist in getting a couple of decent players in on loan or give our new manager extra funds.
I have been the club this morning and picked up Seals lottery and CFU forms if each member could introduce a minimum of 1 member and a lottery subscriber we can make a huge difference, even if the people who bet on the football at the weekend use our my club betting it can make a difference and not forgetting the easy fundraising when shopping online.
It's our club let's play our part and give what we can in order to compete and grow again stronger.
One voice one passion our club needs us to make this happen people.

To me, applicants like Bignot, Money, Barrow (?) seem to accurately reflect our status in the footballing pyramid - a POTENTIALLY decent Conference side with maybe the opportunity of an image boosting Cup run. We can't reasonably expect ex- Championship/L1 guys to be in the frame due to salary demands, budget requirements etc (I accept Barrow is a special exception) nor should we feel the need to settle for an unproven (cheap) manager from leagues below given our current predicament. It all comes back to the right person for the job and at the moment we're very much in the hands of the board. One way or another, it'll all be over in the next few days and we can get on with the next chapter of our glorious if chequered history

I'm surprised by the names in the hat really. very reputable, respectable managers who can do a decent Job but with our budget it's going to be a test whoever takes over and if all this list of managers is true then board have a headache on their hands. For me it has to be Barrow or Bignot.

What is pleasantly surprising is how the potential short list is shaping up, and that the overall quality of candidates this time around is far superior to last time. Certainly a contributor factor for why we ended up with calamity Jon in charge, although I do seem to remember he actually won a couple of games at the time of his job interview , albeit with the help of Mr Sharps. What if we had appointed Sharps as manager instead? And, imagine where we might have been now, had we been able to appoint a Money or Bignot or even GB back then ? Oh well, onwards and upwards.

When you consider the difference in the candidates according to the names branded about in the chronicle. In comparison with those from the time of Burr's appointment. Surely that tells its own story and adequately answers the question posed at the start of this thread. I know I have been critical of the board over recent days. I wish them well throughout the recruitment process. As clearly it will be a big decision for them on the basis of the high quality of candidates who have applied.

Be interesting to be a fly on the wall when the subject of salary comes up. Might be that a couple (or more) of the candidates want more money than we'd expect, or want, to pay out.
That might answer your question of how attractive the job is?
You'd have thought Ronnie Moore would ask for too much. He comes across as that sort of character. The younger options may be prepared to work for less, or a shorter contract, to get themselves established. Looking at the rumoured shortlist there aren't many of those though.
Looks a competitive list of names. As many others have said it's a lot stronger than the previous times. Suppose that shows it is an attractive job.

Work for 6 months and get paid for 12. That's what the big names will want. Keep us up, and we start all over again.

Looks a competitive list of names. As many others have said it's a lot stronger than the previous times. Suppose that shows it is an attractive job. Not sure this will be the case for some of the leading candidates. Given our situation, it is unlikely that anybody will be getting appointed until beyond the end of the current season. Couple this with the fact that the job is attracting a highly competitive field of candidates, people like Ronnie Moore would be shooting themselves in the foot if they turned up at interview demanding a huge salary. The likes of Bignot and Moore will still be living off the pay-offs they would have received for being sacked by Grimsby and Eastleigh - they won't need to demand a big salary for the first 6 months or so. Turn things around and keep us up - that's when the shrewd ones would be asking for a decent salary.
