Just discovered from a Chesterfield site that Ronnie Moore (and Kevin Davies) has applied to Chesterfield, hope this means he will withdraw his application to our club.
At least we know Graham Barrow isn't in for that one.........wonder which other of our short list are in for it too?

As an ex-contractor and they are no different, I would say that they have all applied for at least both jobs. Bills have to be paid and food put on the table.

I just wish his name would disappear. I'm actually pretty happy with just about all the other suggested candidates, but please not him!

Think it was reported last time that Moore lives in the South Yorkshire area, in which case jobs like Chesterfield are surely far more preferable to him than Chester.

Well ... I would say that Davies is to Chesterfield supporters what Graham Barrow is to Chester fans, but that's not to say they'd want to risk him as manager.
Can anybody tell me why Chesterfield are in such mire. When they moved to their new stadium and their crowds almost doubled I expected them to be on an upward trajectory, not staring the abyss that is non league football in the face.

Boardroom unrest, basically. They almost went into administration last season.

Boardroom unrest, basically. They almost went into administration last season. Not quite. We were never in any real danger of Admin as Dave Allen was (and still to some extent, is) pumping thousands in each month to keep us afloat.
We are indeed, in the mire. This has been due to a huge amount of reasons (A lot discussed here if anyone can be arsed to read it: www.thecfss.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=56809&st=0) but the top and bottom of it is gross mismanagement from top to bottom.
Millions in debt (Circa £8.5m-£9) despite selling over £4m worth of players in the last 2 years. Numerous off the field scandals. 4 managers in 2 years, 1 of which was Dean Saunders. Dreadful squads. Relgation.
Make no mistake, we are in real danger of going down again and we will never come back in my opinion. Think Leyton Orient only with much less publicity.
As a local, I genuinely hop you guys get the manager selection right as if we do go down and manage to survive it would be nice to make the short trip to the Deva next season. Not been for a while.

By all accounts Dean Saunders did a good job, had a great away record and terrible home record if I remember correctly? Didn't he win manager of the month for one season all that while you sold Clucas and Darikwa

Didn't he win manager of the month for one season all that while you sold Clucas and Darikwa He started off ok. And yes, in fairness he was hampered by the fire sale going on but he signed some real dross. Sylvain Ebanks-Blake being the main culprit on a two year deal. I cant remember the exact figures but he had a bigger budget (>£2.5m) than Paul Cook did in his last season where we reached the League 1 playoffs and it quickly went sour. The football was terrible. He talked a very good game but really didnt deliver. Story of hi managerial career I think.
He was on a hiding to nothing from the start as he was pretty much universally not wanted by the fans. That said, he was a damn sight better the Gary (3 wins in 29) Caldwell.

Ahh fair enough, I don't follow chesterfield so don't know a great deal. But got family at Clay Cross so know the area. Who do you want as your next manager?

A lot of our fans are excited by Jack Lester or Kevin Davies but not for me. Not now under the current regime. We need to get back to basics. Someone who can get that shower organised and keep us in the league. Not a nostalgic appointment to bring the fans onside. The squad looks good enough on paper. Genuinely have no idea who I want or who it will be.

Your last point is interesting and relates to the clamour on here for Graham Barrow - though he could also be the best person to organise us and pull us out of the mire, as well as being a romantic, nostalgic appointment.

The same could be said about Jack Lester for us. He is, by all accounts, doing very well with the Notts Forest U18's/23's or whatever. It could be perfect, but could also be a disaster. The biggest issue is the man doing the hiring. Ashley Carson. The less said about that man the better.
