After a refreshing home win, we need to use this as a lift for the rest of the season. We find our FA cup opponents a week Monday, and I'd say this season it is crucial. With the expense of McCarthy/Bignot, and I'd personally like to see another pacey/tricky winger, we need all the money we can get. The run a couple of years ago got fans exited, and we need to use this to get people back down to the deva!

As I say every season, one of our goals should be the FA Trophy. Not only does it generate money from prize money, it also attracts potential new fans and a trip to Wembley. Now who wouldn't want that?

Better chance than ever of getting to Wembley in this season's FA Cup - 3rd round, away at Spurs... Can see it now

... and with their Wembley record we should be eyeing a fourth round date!

I was there the last time we drew Spurs away. Not one of our better nights.

The 3rd Qualifying Round games are below, with the level the teams play at in brackets, so it's the winner of these plus the 24 National League clubs. I'm pretty sure it's regionalised north and south. Who do we fancy?
We're due a home draw, surely? You'd have to hope for someone like the winner of 1874 v Ossett or Banbury v Shildon.
1 1874 Northwich (9) – Ossett Town (8) 2 AFC Mansfield (9) – Boston United (6) 3 Stafford Rangers (7) – AFC Telford United (6) 4 Newcastle Benfield (9) – Kidderminster Harriers (6) 5 Nantwich Town (7) – Nuneaton Town (6) 6 Boston Town (9) – Hyde United (8) 7 Banbury United (7) – Shildon (9) 8 Scarborough Athletic (8) – Stratford Town (7) 9 Basford United (8) – Kettering Town (7) 10 Shaw Lane (7) – Lancaster City (7) 11 Buxton (7) – Alvechurch (8) 12 Stockport County (6) – F.C. United of Manchester (6) 13 Ashton Athletic (9) – Chorley (6) 14 Leamington (6) – Gainsborough Trinity (6) 15 Stourbridge (7) – Alfreton Town (6) 16 South Shields (8) – York City (6) 17 Harrogate Town (6) – Bradford Park Avenue (6) 18 Swindon Supermarine (8) – Paulton Rovers (8) 19 Enfield Town (7) – Phoenix Sports (8) 20 Hayes & Yeading United (8) – Havant & Waterlooville (6) 21 Hereford (7) – AFC Hornchurch (8) 22 Slough Town (7) – Poole Town (6) 23 Brackley Town (6) – Braintree Town (6) 24 Concord Rangers (6) – Dorking Wanderers (7) 25 East Thurrock United (6) – Harlow Town (7) 26 Chelmsford City (6) – Weymouth (7) 27 Cinderford Town (8) – Hampton & Richmond (6) 28 Oxford City (6) – Leiston (7) 29 Margate (7) – Herne Bay (8) 30 St Albans City (6) – Bridport (9) 31 Metropolitan Police (7) or Heybridge Swifts (8) – Frome Town (7) 32 Truro City (6) – AFC Sudbury (8) 33 Eastbourne Borough (6) – Bognor Regis Town (6) 34 Bath City (6) – Hemel Hempstead Town (6) 35 Needham Market (7) – Dartford (6) 36 Haringey Borough (8) – Bodmin Town (10) or Bideford (8) 37 Folkestone Invicta (7) – Aylesbury United (8) 38 Hungerford Town (6) – Billericay Town (7) 39 Burgess Hill Town (7) – Wealdstone (6) 40 Ashford Town (8) – Leatherhead (7)

I'd quite like a trip to Stockport again. What a day that was. Yep, was great day out, victory, performance, support etc but I'm always a little bit worried about potential "banana skins" and half of me leans towards as easy a ride as possible, whatever that might be to get us to the first round proper and the opportunity for money. Let's face it, our record recently against teams slightly below is not great e.g Altrincham although I suspect MB will approach the FA Cup very differently to JM or even SB

Exactly the same situation as Southport last season in fact. Actually, I can't remember too many occasions where we've been knocked out the FA Cup by a side from a lower division than us. Offhand I think the last one was Barrow in 2002, and before that I think you're looking at Altrincham in the early 90s.

I stand corrected My point is that we seem to have an ability to make life difficult for ourselves against teams around or slightly below us, even if in the same league, in other words, these are the potential banana skins. I just feel that this year more than most the financial benefits of a cup run would be very useful

I'm afraid I would happily settle for games in round 1 and 2 that we should win. And a nice juicy round 3 draw with a healthy crowd. We are overdue a good run and could really do with buffering the coffers

Being honest I would take an FA Trophy final and get knocked out of the FA Cup in the qualifying round! Obviously all cup competitions are to be treated as money and that's all that realistically matters for the club. Although I think for selfish reasons a trip to wembely would be fantastic for the fans and may be a brilliant advert for Chester FC to gain supporters.

Sqzl a day out at Wembley following us that would be fantastic and as you say possibly help encourage more supporters. That said it's a period of sustained success that would boost support as it does any club. Lincoln have found around 6000 supporters from somewhere recently.

Iæve been saying that for years and it is achievable, look at what York and Halifax did. They also got relegated, both by narrow margins. You could ask whether they might have been fresher and more focused without the distraction of the Trophy run. Although personally I am an advocate of taking it seriously.

Yeah, i remember Lincoln away last season, support was fantastic, a wall of noise. We actually played well until Joyce, being played at wing back, gave the ball away. Wembley would be a brilliant day out for everyone surrounding the club. I do agree though, the only way to gain supporters back that have been potentially lost under the JM era is to win football matches and perform like we did on Saturday. I think people can be a lot more forgiving if we lose narrowly giving it a good go, than if we get beat 2-0 without putting up a fight. Only downside to Wembley is i can't park on your drive and walk down

Agree with your points Sqzll. If we got to Wembley I would be happy to go via South Yorkshire in order to collect you on the way 😀😀. It does seem that the JM era has left its mark on our supporters. I'm sure in time they will return and all will be forgotten should MB bring about a much needed improvement

Good question ..... not sure how that works as there are probably twice as many Southern teams, but the north and south draws seem to be of equal mumbers. Any anoraks out there?

Good question ..... not sure how that works as there are probably twice as many Southern teams, but the north and south draws seem to be of equal mumbers. Any anoraks out there? I think on the list I pasted onto here, all the games down to Harrogate V Bradford PA are the northern section and the southern section starts with Swindon Supermarine v Paulton. Paulton is near Bristol so surely no way they can be in the northern half. That would mean 17 northern 3rd Qualifying Round winners and 23 southern. I suspect when the National League clubs come in, they'll put 11 of us (us, Wrexham, Tranmere, Macc, Fylde, Barrow, Guiseley, Halifax, Hartlepool, Gateshead and Solihull) in the northern section and the other 13 in the southern, leaving 28 northern clubs and 36 southern. I think it was brought up last year, but this leaves us slightly disadvantaged as a northern club. We have a 10/27 chance (37%) of drawing another National League side, whereas a southern section side from our division would have a 12/35 chance (34%) That's if I'm right about how they're doing it. I might well not be.

It was indeed raised last year, by SueC I think on Oldco DC. Just the way it is - there are more southern teams than northern teams as in real terms there is only really one feeder league to Conference North, whilst there are two feeder leagues to Conference South (hence the likes of Kings Lynn, Brackley, Bishops Stortford featuring in CN previously).

Alfreton or AFC Mansfield away so I can get to the game and be very hopeful of a result.
Still scarred by Penrith away 😢😢
