It's very pleasing to see most of the swearing has disappeared from this site, which gives far more credibility to every post. There are still numerous regular errors which appear, one of which I would like to highlight here.
‘Could of’ or ‘could have’?
A common mistake is to write the word of instead of have or the contraction 've:
I could of told you that.
instead of:
I could have told you that.
or alternatively:
I could’ve told you that.
The reason for the mistake is that the pronunciation of have in unstressed contexts is the same as that of of, and the two words are confused when it comes to writing them down. The error was recorded as early as 1837 and, though common, is usually considered unacceptable in Standard English.

The "could of/should of/would of" really irritates me - it is lazy use of the English language.

Less and fewer. You use 'fewer' for things you can count individually, so you'd say 'we had less possession' but 'we had fewer shots'.
Similarly 'amount' and 'number'. It's 'amount of possession' but 'number of shots'.
There is genuinely no purpose to this rule other than to be a smartarse, but it is correct.

Can I add etc. Abbreviation for et cetera. It often appears on here as ECT. Abbreviation for electro convulsive therapy. Extreme and outmoded treatment for severe depression. Wouldn't mind wiring Whopper 3 up though. Only kidding Whops.

I know it's a bit different, but what annoys me is the saying, "Cheap at half the price". It's bound to be - it's HALF the price!!!

You rightly say that Electro Convulsive Therapy is outmoded, but still widely used within the NHS, certainly within the Wirral and West Cheshire NHS Community Trust.

Wouldn't mind wiring Whopper 3 up though. Only kidding Whops. You rightly say that Electro Convulsive Therapy is outmoded, but still widely used within the NHS, certainly within the Wirral and West Cheshire NHS Community Trust. A very simple google search on ECT takes you to the Mind website (a mental health charity so somewhat impartial). Whilst they state: "No-one is sure how ECT works" they explain that: "it is known to change patterns of blood flow in the brain, and also change the way energy is used in parts of the brain that are thought to be involved in depression. It may cause changes in brain chemistry, although how these are related to symptoms is not understood." ECT treatment is regulated by the Royal College of Psychiatrists. The reason it is controversial (and why you might think it is outmoded) is that its historical usage was often unethical (lack of consent from patients, done without anaesthetic etc.). It remains a useful therapy because, as the first paragraph outlines, it works for some people. A therapy you might consider as similar - only in the sense that no one is sure how it works, but it does work for some people - is acupuncture.

Keep up the good work. Everyone knows that we have quite a large uneducated, barely literate element.
