May as well see if it would take off. I'd be more inclined to donate to a one-off fundraising campaign rather than the ongoing squadbuilder because you can see the amount increasing and setting targets encourages donations.
Saying that, the Steve Burr Had a Dream campaign whilst successful in raising funds, was a disaster in terms of him squandering it and it pissing the fanbase off, so not sure if the board would go for it again. Either way, it would be good to see how many would do it.

No way. More money for the people in charge to waiste. Actually as a CFU member and owner of the club I am in charge, and as an owner I would personally be very happy to give my manager a cash boost to strengthen the squad, after all that is what owners are meant to do isn't it? |

I view your comments as directed towards the board and Maguire who were complicit in the decision making processes in regard to a ridiculous and financially catastrophic series of decisions regarding McCarthy. I note an accusation made towards you that you don't understand the fan owned model, and even one person who claims to be in charge. Why these people try to undermine a very obvious statement such as yours is beyond me. I would not be prepared to give any money to those complicit in wasting money on a grand scale either. Incidentally, I am yet to see any form of apology or acceptance for the errors made in regard to McCarthy, and as such I have no confidence that these people accept any guilt. |

Yes with the proviso that it is a straight forward donation and not linked to some mickey mouse offers and not subject to a significant percentage being creamed of for "admin costs". Don't know what the goats did but it certainly appeared very successful. Mind you they always seem to do these things better than us and don't whinge about putting their hands in their pockets to support their club. £50 from me if we can organise it properly.

Just received an email from CFU promoting drive to provide funds for Marcus Bignot via one off donation to or regular standing order to Squad Builder. Making my contribution direct to this fund, only slight issue I have is there will be no obvious target to measure effectiveness of campaign. I am guessing only CFU members may have been canvassed for their support, needs to be promoted more widely. At least the club are not just being passive.

Then they just need to organise a massive CFU membership recruitment drive and it'll kill two birds with one stone. The biggest thing I'd like to see for CFU membership is to use it as a "voucher card" in partnership with local organisations, shops, businesses, pubs and restaurants etc.

I never had a problem with the Steve Burr fund raiser - signing players is always a gamble. Everyone was raving about Hannah coming back but he's not exactly pulling up trees. Good too see RCB back in full flow now that we've had a defeat...the guardian of the club and the English language, I see from another thread.

Chester FC’s Squad Builder initiative enables fans to actively help Marcus Bignot acquire, coach and develop players at our club. Pledges made by fans have already helped to bring players to our club and with many more generous donations, we can boost Marcus’ transfer budget this season.

I won’t chip in yet. I am extremely concerned about MaGuire’s role and influence and the new manager has yet to prove himself. I’m not going to throw good money after bad until I see some evidence that it will be used effectively.
As for CFU meeting on an England international night - doesn’t fill me with confidence

Been announced at AGM last night this has been launched. I got an email yesterday.
Budget already at £450k and spent, up from £370k prev year and £330k before that.
Some players now paid 52 weeks which defines full time, not the amount. A part time contract is 44 weeks.
MB looking to move to 4 days a week which is full time training.

Emailed the club asking them to provide regular updates of how much has been raised since yesterday.
The problem with squad builder for me is that it feels like donations just gets swallowed up and the value of your donation is lost, whereas if you can see the amount rising and can see a target you're more likely to donate.
Hats off to Billy W etc who donate on a monthly basis.

Problem is the available money. We've increased our budget from £370k to £450kis season. This is mainly due to the remaining £60k to come from Sam's transfer fee, and a conservative estimate of James's tribunal value. Next season we will be back down to £370k without any transfer fees. That, of course, assumes our attendances this season reach our budget break even figure. We're well down on attendances this season, for obvious reasons. We were £3k under for each of our last three games. If that continues we will soon use up our cash reserve and be left with nothing. What kind of full time team could fund then? What kind of part time team could we fund then? Anyone sitting back thinking we've loads of dosh and they needn't bother is plainly wrong. At the end of the day it comes down to us supporting our club, and the club to do their bit by identifying new income streams and recruiting the right manager and him the right players. It's pretty clear that the supporter owned model only works at this level if we choose to fund it. A rich owner can choose to throw more of his money at his club, if he chooses to. Likewise a group of poor fan owners can choose to do the same, or not. If 500 fans set up DD's of £10 a month, that would raise £60k a year. Some could afford more, a lot could afford nothing at all. If 1000 fans paid £20 pm that would bring in £240k a season. Think of the difference that would make. At the end of the day it comes down to what we want AND what we can afford, or are prepared to put in. |

I would be happy to put into a measured and transparent scheme. One that starts at £0, and we can all see accrue over the season.
I don't want anything tacky back for it, just the knowledge that when it is being spent it is being done so prudently.

I already make donations to Squad Builder via a (very small) monthly standing order. I also collect change in one of the old small change collection boxes (not sure if there are any left) and empty it when full. It usually takes 2 to 3 months to fill and there's always around a tenner in there, which I drop off at the Office.
In such economically depressed times it's a pretty pain free way of raising a few bob and if every season ticket holder or CFU member did likewise, it would work out at around £40K raised per annum.
Back on topic, I'll be happy to throw a few quid in the hat, but it will have to wait until payday as I'm pretty skint at the moment.

So, I don't do it any more as haven't been up to a game yet this season and haven't got round to phoning the office and asking for one to be posted out. Not knocking the volunteers but you do sometimes wonder if we shoot ourselves in the foot by being unprofessional sometimes.
Having said that I always support any initiatives - anyone who can afford to do so but chooses not to contribute can get on their high horse but don't moan when we end up marooned in National League North.

You are right to an extent - I suppose I just liked the idea of putting my change in a Squad Builder box! It gave me a focus/incentive to save loose change. Also you could seal up the box and transport it easily to the club. I don't use the official car park so the idea of wandering down Bumpers Lane with a big sauce bottle full of cash doesn't appeal. There's also no reason why I couldn't collect change then take it to my local bank down the road and send a cheque for the amount to the club - again takes a bit more effort but no excuse really. Maybe it shows that you do have to make it as easy as possible to donate - most people are fundamentally lazy when it comes to that sort of thing. I wonder what would happen if everyone at the next home game was asked, face to face, to hand over a fiver. I reckon most would.
Anyway, you've shamed me into making an extra squad builder donation even though I had to walk downstairs to get my bank card to make the card reader work.
