www.chesterchronicle.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/tranmere-rovers-boss-micky-mellon-13736937Whilst I fully accept Tranmere were the better team on Saturday, Mellon's interview in the Chronicle comes across as both arrogant (almost a divine right to win) and very sour (only giving credit very reluctantly). Maybe it's symptomatic of a man under pressure, blaming everyone else but himself but he comes across as an odious character compared with the more affable and genuine MB. Glad he's nowhere near our club!

Agree. I suppose it's a way of deflecting attention from the fact they couldn't beat a club with a quarter of their playing budget.
This sort of reaction always comes across as really arrogant when a 'smaller' team holds on for a point.
What MB did is found a way to get us a point. Negative? Yes. Lucky? Perhaps. Would I prefer an 'open' 3-2 loss? Not a chance!

I think the NWAS estimate of £2m budget is way off the mark. A reliable Tranmere source reckons its £1.1m. Don't forget their parachute money has finished and they lost a 6-figure sum on a failed concert in the summer. They have had to rely on loan signings to freshen themselves up. Still more than double our largely wasted budget though.

Can't argue with what he says. Much as I enjoyed the game and a backs to the wall performance we should have lost three or four nil. It was very one sided and their finishing was as bad as anything I've seen.

I think particularly disappointing were his comments about referees.
"We'll send the FA ten examples of where he got it wrong, and they'll come back and say ooh, sorry Mr Mellon, you were right all along, we see that now". Could he sound any more like David Brent?
The referees in this division aren't always very good. Of course they're not. That's why they're only reffing at this level. But to try and make out they all hate Tranmere and they're all being unfair to his team makes him sound like a child. But worst of all, however shit the referees, it makes it much easier to ref a game if the players aren't trying to cheat and con the ref into give them penalties. And as far as I can see on the highlights, the ref got that penalty call 100% right.
So when he comes out in the press and slams for forward for diving and apologies to the ref for trying to cheat him, then I might have some sympathy when the decisions don't go his way.

Yep, there's no point in him winging about it. I don't believe referees target any teams, its more down to the fact that (like the players) they aren't top standard and will make mistakes. Over the season these things will even themselves out, as they always do. The only referee I felt had a genuine agenda against Chester was Andre Marriner, who every time he reffed us seemed to take delight in sending players off and generally having a horrendous game. I remember one game he was was doing his pre match run around with the linesmen and was already getting dogs abuse from Chester fans!

They have played 15 games and failed to score in 9 of those games. If you don't score you can't win! A manager making excuses. Playing nice football is great, but if you can't put the ball in the net then what's the point?

This is what I was suggesting in my original post - a whiff of arrogance when, in my opinion, he should be seriously questioning why strikers of the supposed calibre of Cook, Norwood etc al FAILED to convert the chances they created and have done so on several occasions this season. They do not have a divine right to beat "lesser" teams. This league is not the walkover that teams such as TRFC thought it was when they came down. If they haven't got the guile or creativity to break down teams set up to defend and contain, then that's their problem and not the fault of the officials or opposition. Like I said, smacks of a manager under pressure.

Mellon already had every advantage at his disposal on Saturday without us playing wide open.

Has anyone else noticed the actual size of Mickey Mellon's head? It's massive! I honestly think you could land a helicopter on it. I sat at Prenton Park gasping at the sheer size of it. Surely it deserves its own "CH" postcode?
