I might sometimes disapprove of what he says, but I will defend to the death his right to say it. I absolutely abhor this phrase. Are you telling me you'd stroll in front of a truck on a motorway to defend the right of somebody you don't even know to call people incompetent on a football clubs message board? |

I might sometimes disapprove of what he says, but I will defend to the death his right to say it. With freedom of speech comes a responsibility. Some people seem to miss that part of the deal. If someone says everyone with diabetes should be subjected to euthanasia at 40 to save NHS bills, would you defend to the death their right to say that? I know there's a hell of a difference between that and what Whopper posts. But it's all degrees of responsibility and offense. |

Most of the time Whopper is just an annoying WUM eejit with a number of personal grudges. But what I find really unacceptable on this or any other forum is when some ('oldanddecrepit' comes to mind) who regulary post defamatory statements, opinions and allegations about our board members or employees and try and pass them off as 'facts'. In a workplace situation it would almost certainly lead to disciplinary action and potentially a gross misconduct dismissal, and yet on here this sort of nasty crap is just left in the name of 'free speech', mistakenly in my view.

I know Mark Maguire quite well. I had a disagreement with him after we'd thrown 3 points away against Woking last season. He couldn't understand why I was so annoyed. We have made up however. He gets my support because he believes passionately about this club. He was wrong to support McCarthy this season, but that's history. We must all pull together to get out of this terrible mess we're in.

Ok after yesterday's disappointment the worst thing was to come on deva chat and get wound up even more but hey will hold my hands up and say my comments towards Whopper were over the top - for one I haven't a clue who is and even if I did would be more inclined to buy him a pint to discuss our differences rather punching him - so Whopper I apologise to you if I caused any offence after all we are a dwindling set of supporters - Fred Too late old son. I forwarded your threat of physical violence towards me this morning to Cheshire Police. They will investigate under the malicious communications act of 2003. we are all here to debate the issues without the need to threaten one another. As I think has been said before on DC, try going up to a copper in the street and calling him a t**t, and then seeing where the "freedom of speech" argument gets you.
Freedom of speech is great, but people also have the right not to be accused, insulted and harassed on dubious grounds. Whopper certainly comes very close to that line at times, and it appears to be done more for a reaction than to make any kind of genuine point.
