Chester FC Raise Your Game is a project that will allow young people aged 16-25 to gain new skills and qualifications, and equip them with the confidence and support to have a positive impact on their community through delivering opportunities to play sport, increasing participation and improving health and well-being.
Working with partners, Chester FC Raise Your Game will identify 16 to 25-year-olds from disadvantaged backgrounds with a passion for sport who have the potential to be game-changers within their community. Priority will be given to those young people not in educate, employment or training.
The project will provide 16 young people with support and training over a 20 week programme to become ambassadors for Chester FC Community Trust in their communities. Participants will complete The FA Level 1 in Coaching Football qualification, The FA Emergency Aid course, The FA Safeguarding Children Workshop and undertake a Criminal Record Check, equipping them with new skills to allow them express their passion for sport as coaches, having a positive impact in their community and accessing volunteering opportunities with the potential for employment or further education and training. In addition to gaining these new skills and experience, participants will recieve mentoring from Chester FC Community Trust staff to help their development as coaches and young people, offering advice, support and guidance to help them realise their potential.
Throughout the programme participants will have the opportunity to gain practical experience through supporting Chester FC Community Trust staff at a range of sessions, allowing them to put the learning from their coaching course into practice and develop confidence.
Upon completion of the coaching qualification Chester FC Community Trust will signpost to local clubs and teams where their new skills and experience will enable them to safe, fun and engaging coaching sessions. Participants will also be encouraged to assist with the delivery of existing Chester FC Community Trust programmes and as those who know their community best, to identify and contribute to the development of new opportunities to participate in sport based on local needs.
Through Chester FC Raise Your Game the young people will benefit considerably, gaining new qualifications and life skills, making new friendships, having renewed purpose and self-esteem, and increased employability, while the potential number of people who will be indirect beneficiaries as the new coaches deliver sessions to all sectors of their community will extend far beyond those directly involved.
Funding from the Aviva Community Fund of £9,275 would support Chester FC Raise Your Game for two programmes over 44 weeks, enabling 32 young people to benefit from the project, becoming qualified football coaches who will have a positive impact on their community and helping to turn the direction of their lives around.
