I moved away from Chester 14 years ago, not too far - just outside St Helens - but far enough. Me and my Lad, he's 14, get to a lot of games, night games a bit of a ballache coz of work, food etc. SO, tonight, after the game (a win?) I've promised to introduce him to a favourite of mine from my often mis-spent youth - The Caspian Kebab House! Question is, is it still the finest eatery in the Western World, or has it gone downhill over the years???

Well, it's had a lick of paint recently and it's marginally better than Chicoland. A new kebab house has just opened along that row too, called Today Kebab. I can say that a kebab from there was quite nice and I was sober at the time of eating it too. Hope your lad enjoys it. These kids these days are mollycoddled into eating healthy. Good to see someone let their kids line their stomachs with grease and coca-cola rather than water & cucumber juice.

Never been there myself, although it doesn't appear to have changed much since I can remember. I'd recommend popping a few doors down as well and trying some of the potato wedges from Chico Land - iconic.

Best kebab I've ever had is from Abdul's not far from Manchester Academy. Flipping gorgeous.

Best kebab I've ever had is from Abdul's not far from Manchester Academy. Flipping gorgeous. Best kebab I've eaten (and it continues to be the case) is from Tarporley Grill House. Closed down for refurbishment last year and ever since it reopened its been consistently good. Always get a good spread too. It's a bit out of town I know but worth a try.

I'm pretty certain you are referring to the great big meat going round and round "donor" kebabs. I was a microbiologist and we tested those, I certainly would never have that. BUT skewered fresh chicken steak lamb or kofteh cooked on the grill are lovely and are the "healthy option". With a bit of chilli sauce and nice fresh salad, good stuff!
