Just tried to find this thread and saw that it had been locked by Big Si over Whopper nonsense.
I feel this discussion needs to continue and I hope Big Si doesn't mind me asking the question again.
I feel we have improved because under the McCarthy regime we would have got a similar amount of points to those accumulated by Hyde United about 5 years ago.
Whether we have improved enough to avoid relegation is the big question. I notice that after each win we've followed it with a defeat. To avoid relegation we need to start putting together little unbeaten runs. The problem obviously is centred in the middle of defence. We need to work on defending corners. I'm absolutely not sure whether we can avoid relegation. What can MB do to achieve our objective of remaining in this league?

If we perform like we have in the past two games we will pick up more than enough points to stay up.

What we don't want is to end up in a 5 or 6 team mini league battling against the 4 relegation places as at the moment there is an ominous gap being created between lower mid table ( where any team could snatch a play off berth) and the bottem teams. I personally think that by the end of November we will know where we really stand for the remainder of the season.

If we perform like we have in the past two games we will pick up more than enough points to stay up. We are going to have to find a way of scoring. Two many blanks in Bignot's first few games. Always felt yesterday that we settield too early for a 0-0. At times in the second half we barely got out of our half. Distribution from the back needs to be better - Astles was particularly wasteful yesterday.

The centre backs are the problem. Because they have no pace, we setup too deep. This gives the opposition space to control the ball and limits our ability to counter attack.
If we can get someone in to replace mccombe (Who I haven't seen have a good game yet) I feel we can move up the table

I think football fans are too reactive to individual results.
Yes, I'd say things are getting a lot better. We were an embarrassment to start the season, now we can go to Tranmere and Maidstone away and compete for 90 minutes. That's progress in itself, but I'm confident in the next weeks and months we'll find winners and start bringing 3 points home from these type of games. Also, don't forget we've won 2 home games under MB - something we hadn't managed for almost a year!
With our training stepping up and players settling under MB, we are only going to get better. But just like Barrow wasn't a miraculous feat of footballing brilliance that signified a charge to the play offs, yesterday wasn't a disastrous result that will relegate us.

Please delete this post. It is far too reasoned and sensible to be on here.

Seven points from six games under Bignot, compared to seven from eight under McCarthy, and they've been a tougher set of fixtures, so yes, we've improved. Even if we'd lost them all though I'd still say things were better because he's identifying problems, talking sense in interviews and showing some intent to win games, especially at home. McCarthy was happy with a point against anyone.
If he can keep up a rate of seven points from six games, we'll finish on 50 points, which might be enough. If he can make us just a little bit better, we should survive.

I think things are better but that is hardly surprising considering where we were. Have things improved enough to ensure survival, possibly not. Think we will need to further strengthen if we can in January and hope that we keep in touching distance of safety until then. Some signs that one or two of the summer signings are getting to the level we expected, in particular Paul Turnball. Some of those teams around us will improve and possibly one from above will go into freefall, but we need to find a way to win dirty as well as entertain at home.

I think things are slightly better under Bignot .Staying up is looking more and more difficult though. As most seasons 25 pts plus by Christmas is whats needed to give you a realistic chance. in our case that means us winning at least 4 games out of the next 10.

Simple answer in terms of performance is yes. However we need to start picking up points and fast, better performances won't keep us in the league and I'm becoming increasingly worried looking at the table!
Having Shaw fit again will be vital for us, and getting Hannah back in the goals.

Bignot is hampered by the injuries to Mahon and Akintunde. We desperately need some width and players who can run at a defence. Why oh why are our injured players out for so long and why do we never get told about their progress. The number of games these two miss must be a cause for concern.

The stupid answer to the above question McCarthy stated was that we don't want our opponents to know.

I think the question answers itself? Can’t think of anything that would be worse than JM bless him. As others on here correctly point out we do need to get a bit of a wriggle on. We need to be 5 or so points better off than games played imo. That looks an ask at the moment. Hopeful of a positive result at Eastleigh.

I honestly think we will finish mid table under MB.

I guess it’s stating the obvious but It’s a big game on Saturday. Having failed to win our last game in hand we really need to win this one. Eastleigh beat Macc on Saturday so it will be tough. But the improved performances under MB give me hope. Whilst I haven’t done the maths I bet we would guarantee survival in this league if we just stopped conceding goals in the last 5 minutes of a half. This is a horrible habit we have got into in the last couple of seasons.

As a member of Total Fitness I must say I've not seen players in there apart from a couple of the younger players since MB has been here. I guess he's got them doing proper training and not just socializing.

Don't know .... I pay annually. Works out at around £32 per month for over 55s.
