I am not comfortable with teams from one country being allowed to play in a league of another country. We have Berwick playing in Scotland but their ground is in England. Numerous Wales based teams play in The English pyramid. There is a Welsh league system, but most ridiculous is the concept where teams play in English leagues whilst having their governance from Wales. In the cases of Swansea and Cardiff their inclusion could be addressed by the creation of a British league system, which would then open the door on an equal basis to Celtic and Rangers for example. Chester's issue could be addressed by building a stadium in England or seeking a shift in the border. As it is, I assume Chester FC take governance from England because the main office is in England.(isn't it?)

Strange one really. I do remember when Swansea were in Europe they were representing England which caused a bit of uproar. I also noticed the Cardiff fans especially seen their arses after having to display "English Football League" on their shirts. erm... You play in an English League? duh!

Yes, it's ridiculous really.
I hear Wrexham fans with their anti-English comments, but I bet they'd be devastated if they were chucked out our league.
In fairness, I'd be gutted if they were too as I'd hate to lose the Chester vs Wrexham games.

We play in the English league it's only right there is a level playing field. As it is we get some benefits (they do seem to rescind a lot of our cards) and some major drawbacks (partixuoarly around transfers) And you are right. 99 percent of Wrexham fans would be devastated if we were forced into the Welsh league. It would be the death of the club as we know it.

I wouldn't be against a British league, to be honest, and even a UK national team rather than England, Scotland, Wales and NI. Appreciate I'm in a huge minority there.

I'd love to see my favourite Welsh team Bala Town playing in the English pyramid.
They've been denied the WPL championship in 4 out of the last 5 seasons by an English team.

Not on your own though Lobster, I agree with your sentiments. There has been too much petty nationalism to the point it has been detrimental to our wider British heritage. I like us to beat Wrexham in our football rivalry of course which is given a bit of spice by the English Welsh flavour, but Wales and England are both just regions of the same country. Away from football I have no issues what so ever with any Welshman, Scotsman or Irishman. They are all countrymen. I would love there to be a British premiership with Celtic, Rangers and also Swansea and Cardiff from time to time. A Belfast team if one was of the required level would also be great, with some more regional divisions below it. We’re one country really with strong traditions to be embraced from all our regions. Hope this derby is a great match and we can have a beer with our Wrexham counterparts afterwards when we’ve thrashed them 3-0. It wouldn’t be because the English are better than the Welsh, were not, just would have played better football on the day.

Chester's issue could be addressed by building a stadium in England or seeking a shift in the border. As it is, I assume Chester FC take governance from England because the main office is in England.(isn't it?) You need to understand that there is a lot of history to this. The original 'English' FA was always far more than English teams. In fact, Wrexham who (whisper it quietly) were formed two decades before we were once played in the Birmingham leagues before the FA created a national one, and they and other clubs based in Wales were part of it from the outset. I don't have a problem with any of that, it is our shared history after all. In my view that have been two far more modern aggravating factors. First, there was the perceived threat by FIFA to the continuation of the Welsh international team due to rules that mean that each competing nation must have its own 'proper' league structure. That led to the formation of the LoW/WPL in the early 90s, which then established a contrast between the Welsh and English leagues that previously didn't exist. Next, is the unsatisfactory (in my opinion) situation where some of the Welsh clubs in the English leagues choose to come under the control of the Welsh and not the English FA for things like disciplinary matters, which means that if we have any 'issues' that arise on or off the field at our derby games the two different FA's can give out two very different types of responses or sanctions to each club, something that always grates on me. So while I don'fr have any issues with Welsh clubs being in the English league due to the history behind it, there are other issues that fall out of this that do create problems.

There was a team called Belfast Celtic which was wound up after a fan or player (not sure which) was killed during a game. This was in 1945 or 46.

Nice one Bing - I know more Chester supporters in Rossett than Wrexham supporters and have Chester supporters in the family!! They are all decent folk by the way and I love the banter with them. Unfortunately there is plenty of hatred around and so unfortunately things are not going to change soon.
