After seeing the club finally tell us how much we have raised in the fund. I hoping I can get some info on who gave the ok to hand out two year player contracts. There would of been a conversation and someone on the board would of approved it. Who?

In fairness, if you put your faith in a manager, you also have to back the decisions he makes in recruiting players. The mistake was putting faith in McCarthy for too long, and that's created a ball of other mistakes.

Don't think we should be handing out any two year player contracts. Encourages laziness and complacency. Plenty of hungry players out there willing to come on one year deals. Isn't that the norm at our level? I can see the benefits in making an exception for young players but should draw the line at 24.

So what you are telling is Mccarthy has told the board I can get these players but they what a two year contract? We must of had a business plan going into the transfer market in the summer and I find it hard to believe that two year contract weren't in his plan. I can't believe that Mccarthy hasn't followed that plan or the board has changed the business plan half way through recruitment. I just want to know when was it given the go ahead and by who?

We need to move on from the blame game for the McCarthy debacle. Don't get me wrong, it was an utter clusterdoodle of immense proportions, but most of that board have moved on.
2 years contracts should be used to secure young talent where appropriate or you end up in a Heneghan position, but giving them to 31 year old big earners should have been looked at more closely.
It wasn't, but we have to move on. Our new board have communicated twice with us in 2 days - the announcement of the £2k milestone being passed, and David O'Toole tweeting about it - so hopefully the board responsibilities post is just around the corner.

Yes communication is poor at the moment, but why start a thread on an unofficial fans forum when the Chief Executive has set up a direct fans query email address?

Wind back the clock to May/June and I recall lots of excitement, record season ticket sales and talk of a sustainable push for promotion over the next couple of seasons - all on the back of McC doing his business early and getting players with solid reputations on 2 year contracts.
I am not defending McC (as he clearly got it wrong and plenty pointed out the unbalanced squad at the time) but there’s no hard and fast rule for 2 year contracts other than if the player is good enough, you do it.
I don’t get why there is a witch hunt at the board level for giving out 2 year contracts as one assumes the board relied on McC to determine if the players were good enough. The culpability of the Board was in retaining McC into this season and the culpability is with McC for picking the wrong players/not being able to get them to perform for him.

its true the chief executive has an email address for any fan queries and also true he USED to reply to questions within 24 hours but as with so many things with the club communication has taken a nose dive again full of false promises which are not fulfilled i am still waiting for a reply to THREE emails sent to CEO re travel expenses refund for Eastleigh game 2 emails to fans @ chester website one to MM personal email no reply to any of them not even a polite reply saying sorry but you wont be getting a refund i can accept the rejection of claim but no reply at all is just both rude and incompetent and shows a contempt for fans. i know i am not alone in not getting a reply to a possible refund

Ask a sensible question, purely out of interest and concern and one of the famous self-appointed gatekeepers intervenes with an aggressive tone as if you have no rights since you may not be a precious CFU member. No wonder the gates are falling with such attitudes. My turn next no doubt. Starting the stopwatch now!

Yes, being an owner is precious when you are a supporter of a fan owned club. It is the owners who elect the board and no one else, and if you are not an owner you are in no position to criticise a board that as fans give up their spare time to run the club but in return just get abuse from people who can't even be bothered to stump up a quid a month to own their own club. If you think my tone was aggressive you are wrong (and stupid), but equally as an owner I do not appreciate people deliberately undermining my board members when they are not putting forward any positive alternatives, just as any owner of any club anywhere wouldn't. Ownership of something as precious as Chester FC comes with responsibilities.

Problem here is that this implies that we don’t want to gain any extra fans apart from CFU members. I agree the board do get some unfair abuse, but don’t help themselves at times. I also don’t think it is helpful to basically tell none CFU members that they are not entitled to give their opinion or support our great club.

Ownership of something as precious as Chester FC comes with responsibilities. True to type indeed. Surely if the board felt the need to adopt a defensive stance they could do it themselves. Enjoy your deluded sense of power and ownership if you want, but each time someone holds an alternative view to yours it becomes monotonous in your accusations that they are wrong, and therefore stupid as well it seems. I see another self-appointee refers to people who express concerns as weirdos. Nice to see potential new supporters held in such esteem by philosophers such as yourself. God help the club if you are representative.

Any supporter who buys seasons tickets, match day tickets, spends money in the shop or bar etc. can all have a view and criticise the Board if they so wish, in my opinion. Their money is spent by the Board just the same as yours or my CFU membership money is.

There was a question raised a couple of years back at a CFU meeting, in relation to the boards influence on the make up of the squad. The answer was that they supported the manager in putting together his squad, within the agreed budget. It was his to spend as he saw fit.
In principle, this makes sense. You don't employ a professional then interfere with his help does his job. However, you should ensure he keeps on track.
I'd expect a manager to explain the make up of his planned squad. Keeper and young back up. 6 defenders. 3 midfielders, 3 wingers, 4 strikers, and some young cover it loanees etc.
When they then start to sign 3 left wingers, of a load of over 30s etc you would expect to ask questions.
It must have been an agreed policy change to offer 2 year deals. A year ago JMc said no-one would have a 2 year deal, as he himself only had a year. Made no sense a player had a longer contract than the manager. Once he got a two year deal, presumably that changed.
Two year deals aren't the issue if offered to the right kind of player. Those who play well, and hopefully can be sold on. Hannah and James both did well here previously. Having some players on longer deals means that not all the squad is out of contract at the same time. That gives some continuation from season to season. Something we've been lacking.
Problem is, we've now got players on two year deals who aren't performing for one reason or another. That screws up the whole plan. Most managers make mistakes in signing players. When they are your key players that legacy remains longer than the manager. That's where we are now.

The problem comes when he gets inundated with emails. Something has to give - and I personally don't want that to be his commercial work.

Some people literally want a breakdown on player injuries with updates on when they'll be back. While this may get mentioned if MB was asked in an interview i don't think many clubs would be issuing medical statements and a bit of confidentiality in a sports business is surely allowed. I also don't think anyone would have batted an eyelid about two year contracts if we'd had the likes of Henghan and Hughes on them, or if Ross Hannah has netted 10 goals so far this season and we we're further up the table. All a bit of nothing thread to moan IMO.
