You've said there yourself, they have over a thousand on their terrace. Yesterday there can't have been more than a few hundred on ours, the wide open spaces mean that any noise generated from the lads in the middle isn't going to spread. People stood at the ends of the terrace probably can't hear any chanting, just a drum banging. We need a busy middle section of the terrace to generate atmosphere, traditionally this has always been where the younger supporters congregate. It's obvious from the huge gap behind the goal we are failing to attract the type of supporter who used to occupy this area. In that case, anyone up for singing and chanting, come and pack the middle with us! There are definitely 'chanters' around the ground. Our away support is usually vocal and a lot of the lads that contribute to that don't bother at home unless we are playing Tranmere and Wrexham, when H block has a very good atmosphere. Hopefully your efforts might convince them to get back on the terrace and get involved.

We probably lost a generation (if not more) during the horrible seasons pre the 2010 reformation so we do need to work hard to get that level of support back. Success on the pitch is the easiest way to do that but that is on a slow build at the moment so we do need to get something going on the Harry Mac. It is a bit strange as when we are on our travels the singing and chanting are great. It would be really good to find out from those who are good at leading the singing at away matches as to what the problem is at home. Also, perhaps we do need a 'team leader' for this group of fans to rally the support and the chanting as I think we do need to do our bit to lift the team at home. Any volunteers or nominations for this??? I was watching the match on TV in Cambridge yesterday and I honestly didn't hear any noise at all not even from the 600+ school kids but I guess that may have been down to BT and their sound balance for the commentary. It is a worry but as we do know when we get consistency of success on the pitch then it is self correcting. There's a group of lads who hire and minibus and go to all away games (very vocal, always chanting). Literally none of them bother with home games. It's crossed my mind and we may have to ask them if they're up for coming to home games to improve the atmosphere. They definitely do go to home games, though not on the terrace. The lads I think you are referring to are mostly the people who generated the atmosphere behind the goal in the couple of season before the reformation and the couple of seasons after. As people get older they tend to drift from the middle of the terrace to the sides or move to the main stand.

With particular regard to yesterday's match, the atmosphere was flat even in the build-up to kick-off, let alone during the match. As the game went on, I think we began to accept the inevitable and realised that it was going to be one of those days (it's only human nature) I suppose it's a bit "chicken and egg" with atmosphere - support from the terraces encouraging players to play better, team playing well generating singing/chanting etc. Can't comment on the Harry Mac - I sit in B block and generally it's pretty vociferous especially when we're kicking towards the Harry Mac I'd love to hear the Harry Mac back to what it was and fair play to those looking to do just that.

Thing is though, if we can get as many people behind the goal to make an atmosphere then maybe younger genreation fans might come into it and might start coming? When we first reformed most werks the middle terrace was always packed and it was a young generation of fans back then, alot came because the cluh advetised loads and there was a decent atmosphere to get involved with , if the club started advetising again and people helped create an atmosphere then maybe just maybe more fans would start coming because lets be honest, as a young un you dont want to be sat in an empty ground where its depresssing wet and cold with no atmosphere do you? Hope this all goes well though and something gets sorted for next season UTS

I think the attendance is the issue, when theres a good crowd it obviously generates a good atmosphere especially when were doing well. But i think the reason the numbers are low this season is because alot of people didnt renew their season tickets after a poor season last year, hence we have so many on and off fans.

Streamers? What next? How about those whistle thingys that roll out a piece of paper when you blow into them? Balloons with 6 years old on would be apt also 😂

aye it would be great to see it all back, Streamers used to look great when there was loads of them aswell! Hope it all works out, does anyone know what ever happened to that massive surfer flag and them big blue and white flags aswell? not seen them for a while I am buying 60 (yes 60!) streamers blue and white for Tranmere and Lincoln. This is just a start- next season we want to better this, we are already pricing up getting a big flag along the bottom of the stand about 20ft x 5ft. The main lad I am planning all this with next season cant remember the persons name who had all sorts of flags and is trying to track him down. He said he'd make a deva chat account to try and track them down so you may see that soon. That goes for anyone though, if you know someone or are someone who owns Chester flags/banners, can you please get in touch so we can get the flags and banners in use for next season! Danny, I can put you in touch with Sean the flag man if nobody has done so already. Sean is a top bloke. Send me a PM with your contact details and I'll pass them on to him so he can give you a shout By the way, I think it's great that you're trying to do something positive about the lack of atmosphere and not just be negative about it. Well done. Jeff

Having a flag passed over your head will lift any crowd. That's the kind of buzz that we need to create, everyone who has a flag bring it along! What's the worst that could happen

I'm one that moved from the Harry Mac to the East Stand after our reformation. My chanting and singing days are long gone. Back in the day though (Conference winning season especially) the atmosphere inside the Harry Mac was electric. Yes, you could put that down to the increased numbers in the terrace due to our success on the pitch at the time, but we had large flags passed over our head, drums and we always had one person leading the chants in the middle section behind the goal. Obviously, those fans who once stood there have got older and have moved to another 'quieter' area of the ground so that's lost. Kudos to the lads for trying to generate this kind of atmosphere again. Can't fault the commitment of these lads, nor can we accuse them for not trying. But the only way to increase the atmosphere there is to increase numbers there. And that in itself is a catch 22 situation.

Doing our best lads. We'll be buying a 20ft x 5ft (yes that is huge) 'WE ARE CHESTER' banner for next season. A crowdfunder will, hopefully, be going up nearer the end of the season to fund a few things for some displays to get the atmosphere going. Stay tuned! #COYB

I've asked around and got a few people to chip in, really it would be useful if I could go round the ground with a bucket so you know who I am and where the money is going! I'd happily put some money towards it! Crowdfunder to donate now up mate! www.crowdfunder.co.uk/chester-fc-displays
