As we seemingly hurtle into a serious relegation fight, how do we approach the FA Trophy the year?
The First Round proper is drawn tomorrow with ties played on 16th December. Prize money is £6K for this round's winners rising to £60K for winning the thing..
With us struggling with form, injuries and our precarious position do we pay it lip-service or have a real go with the financial benefits available?
Also, some interesting casualties in yesterday's round of matches in the "northern" section maybe indicates a genuine opportunity could be opening up this year for us. Then again, it's Chester FC and Cup games, say no more!
Knocked out yesterday - Salford, Stalybridge, FCUM, Curzon Ashton Facing replays - Stockport, Southport, Boston, Kiddie (!), Warrington Winners - Chorley, York, Telford, Hereford

I think we have to treat it as an opportunity to get some much needed funds in. It may well be a risk of losing players to injury, but we need every penny at the moment.
Also winning is a habit. If we were to knock over a few lower league sides (it's possible...) it would bread some confidence

The Manager must treat this as an opportunity regardless of who we get. We need to look at developing a system which will make us hard to beat and as much as you do on the training ground matches are where you build confidence and resilience. Anyone can defend, it’s about effort not skill largely. Let’s see a team that is hard to beat. The Trophy is more games to work on improving.

Altrincham, who won yesterday . . . so that will be it . . . them, away!!

The FA Trophy is always an opportunity regardless of our league position, it's an opportunity to get money to put into the transfer budget. It dismays me year after year how little respect we show the competition which is potentially lucrative and provides an achievable trip to Wembley if we decide we're going to give a toss for once.

The problem is given our current state of rancid generals, is it worth risking further injuries, or do we try something different, give a few young lads a go and see what we can unearth.

It’s nailed on that we will get Alty away in tomorrow’s draw (we seem to play them in every competition possible these days). I know we say it year on year, but it is really important that we can go on a good run. If we progress far then it could boost confidence and team morale, whilst earning us some dosh. I can’t settle with exits from the first stage of every competition each year.

We need a shite team at home to score a few goals and get some confidence in the side. £6K in the bank and back into the league games on the back of a win.

What time is the draw? & where’s the best place to get updates?

Found this which says the draw is 1pm and is regionalised. That being the case, I'd say we want either Marine or Glossop/Workington at home. Results from last round

Best place for updates will be, as usual, Chronicle's Twitter feed.

Do have to wonder what sort of crowd we would get for a home tie in this against unattractive opposition just over a week before Christmas, unless prices are significantly slashed (which the opposition would have to agree to).

We need the money.
We need to win the bloody thing.
What we'll get is a 2-0 defeat away to Glossop or someone like that

I believe that whoever we play with this defence we're out at the first hurdle. I'm still reading Kidderminster fans saying they couldn't believe how bad we were.

Forgive my ignorance but you use the term rancid generals a lot and it's not a term I'm familiar with. Do you mean the ineffective board?

Rancid generals is from an Indy film, Officers of a United world from a few years ago. It’s basically slang term for being in the crap. It wasn’t meant as an insult to the board par ce, but I do agree with those who think they could be a bit more open with better communication.

FA Trophy can be a blessing and a curse -yes it's great to progress but can hinder league form- as we have no league form it can only be a blessing progression is critical

Got nothing to lose really! We need a win from somewhere and if it comes in this trophy then so be it.
