A debate on DC1 has ended in predictable fashion, with NFBF irrelevantly dragging in Corbyn and "the left", someone insulting him and him getting upset, so let's see if we can get a better one going on here.
Trump - is he a fascist or just plain nuts? Can he be considered an "ally" with the way he behaves? Why are we still planning to offer him a state visit when he's promoting a British far-right hate group and uses the London attacks to make cheap shots at our gun laws?

Brexit is pushing us into his arms, the only problem is that not only is he an unhinged fascist sympathiser, but he doesn't care about other countries and is true to his 'America First' slogans in terms of trade.
If a state visit goes ahead then I wouldn't like to guess how many will take to the streets to protest, but I'll be amongst them.

He's a Fascist and therefore no ally of ours.
He will bully a weak PM in May and her Government into accepting a trade deal that has no benefit to us.
Any visit to the UK should be cancelled asap. He should not be made welcome on these shores.
The Conservative Government urge people to 'think of the bigger picture', we are.
Trump should be more concerned with more pressing matters at home, like the continued investigation into his business dealings with Moscow, and hopefully a forthcoming impeachment.
The real threat to Americans has always been, and always will be Americans. Here's a fact of the day for you, more Toddlers have killed Americans with firearms in the last 3 years than have been killed at the hands of terrorists.
When is Trump going to start a war on Toddlers?

Wasn't there loads on here whooping when he got it because it meant that a certain Hilary Clinton wouldn't get in. You got what you asked for. On a personal level I think he's very similar to a certain former Chester FC owner ..... that is NUTS.

Yeah, they totally missed the point there! Some of them seem to want a world where everyone is walking round with a gun in their hand so that at least if a "bad guy" does shoot someone, the "good guys" can shoot him. It can't work like that - what a horrible way to live! Guns put everyone at the mercy of a trigger being pulled. If someone points a gun at you, you don't have time to say "oh hang on, I've got one of them as well!" Guns create a world where the weak control the strong, the cowardly control the brave and the idiots control the geniuses. America's primitive attitude to mental health doesn't help either, since anyone who would even consider going on a killing spree is clearly not sound of mind. |

If Hilary Clinton was so bad , why hasn't she been brought to account. American politics is so bent, even more so than ours. |

It’s more the nasty way she put down the women who claimed to have had affairs with bill Clinton and ruined their lives, then took the moral high ground against Trump when he was being nasty to women. She is a hypocrite and her financial dealings were dodgy. The last election was lose lose for the yankees. The nutjob or the crook? That’s not Vaughan vs Smith by the way!

There is an argument, put forward by the philosopher Slavoj Zizek among others, that when faced with two awful candidates, it's better to choose the more outrageous one. I don't agree with or even understand everything he says, but the gist I get of it is that Hillary is sneaky and deceptive but professional enough to get away with it, whereas Trump is just an obnoxious loudmouth who anyone with a brain cell can see is out of his depth. Him being president should be galvanising the Democrats to get their act together and put together a serious challenge, although they don't appear to be doing so.

There hasn't been a post of the main page on DC1 since the 1st of December, the OTF is just 3mm making political statements that no one responds too, Looks like Elton Blues and NFBF have given up, even mad Barney is quiet. How times have changed.

The one thing I miss about the old forum is the Off Topic section to be honest. This one doesn't seem to get going in the same way, and seems a bit dominated by the word association thread. And NFBF, to give him some credit, has always been good at getting discussion going. I just wish he'd be a bit thicker skinned! That said, it would be better if people could avoid insulting him. There's a belief that things like Brexit and Trump happened because people with right-wing views feel like they can't express them without being called "racists" or "bigots" or suchlike, which leads to polling booth rebellion. I tend to find that his arguments are pretty easy to counter without insults, and listening to people and debating with respect is how you change people's minds, not by insulting them.
