The lorry driver crisis caused predominantly by Brexit is now hoping to be resolved by drafting in prisoners, including those who used lorries to smuggle drugs into the country. THIS IS NOT SATIRE Germany was missing between 45,000 and 60,000 HGV drivers last year. It has been predicted that could rise to 185,000 by 2027. France has been facing a shortage of around 43,000 drivers since 2019, Transport Intelligence says. There is an estimated shortfall of around 15,000 drivers in Italy, since 2019.4 Oct 2021 Stop making a buffoon of yourself Please get your facts right You come across as a typical remoaner You lost just like that team of yours France - Population 65 million short of 43,000 lorry drivers Germany - Population 83 million short of 45-60,000 lorry drivers Italy - Population 60 million short of 15,000 lorry drivers UK - Population 68 million short of 80-100,000 lorry drivers Where is the biggest issue? Also, using the tired old retort of 'You lost. get over it' just illustrates that you have no argument. Rather, illustrate some benefits as has been requested further up. I've been waiting in vain for 5 years for someone to enlighten me, despite the question having been asked many times. The nebulous phrase sovereignty has been spoken a few times, without anyone really seeming to know what it means, as to do business and work in an international sphere we have to abide largely by international laws.

I see we've started dumping raw untreated sewage into the sea (albeit down south). Causing previously popular beaches to be closed and people recommended to no go in the sea.
If that's not 'taking back control' I don't know what is!

Can somebody please list the actual benefits from leaving the EU? It’s kept the Tories’ off-shore bank accounts safe from public scrutiny and provided a smokescreen for their corrupt and nefarious activities. If you are a hard of thinking, self-loathing, working class Tory, it’s a win win.

If that's not 'taking back control' I don't know what is! Interesting to note that in 2013, England's number of Blue Flag beaches dropped from 79 to 55 because of more stringent standards imposed by the EU.
Get ready to hear in the near future that our number of Blue Flag beaches has shot up and that this is thanks to Brexit, when really it will just be because we're allowed to introduce our own Poundland standards instead.

Owner Paterson has now resigned. The state of him trying to play the victim and bemoan the "cruel world of politics". If he had faced a by-election I think there's a good chance he would've lost - people are rightfully angry. This way he doesn't face that scrutiny from his constituents and they'll probably vote in the next Tory candidate whoever they are as it's a safe blue seat. Fully expect him to get a peerage when this has all blown over as a thanks for falling on his sword. The whole thing stinks.

Latest opinion polls suggest 53% in favour of Rejoin. 1 in 10 leavers regreting their choice. EU membership particularly strong amongst the young . Looks like Rejoin has a massive advantage, in that it has the Grim Reaper on its side and Brexit is only as strong, as the Tory majority.

Animal carcasses are being sent to the EU for butchering and packaging due to a shortage of butchers here. Another win. It's interesting that in his speech to the Confederation of British Industry today, Boris Johnson started rambling on about Peppa Pig. Coincidentally or not, this is not the first time he's created nonsensical news about a subject where there is more serious news. He's succeeded in burying news about the pig cull and the shipping of carcasses by talking bollocks. If you search Google for "UK pigs" "Britain pigs", "Boris pigs" etc now, all you get is his Peppa Pig ramble. This theory is not as daft as it sounds. There are people and companies who spend a lot of money on online reputation management and "black hat" manipulation of search engines.

And the tactic has worked, Bill being heard in Parliament tonight essentially privatising the NHS and forcing poor people to sell their homes to pay for their care. Of course the deliberate blunder means media are discussing a cartoon character instead.

Yeah, it’s deflected attention away from the Johnson having lied to the country about the Government’s social care plans. Mind you I bet working class Tories cannot wait to sell their houses in their autumn years so the rich can keep theirs.

Brexit has made it easier for refugees in small boats to reach the U.K. An unexpected but welcome Brexit dividend: link here In light of the tragic events today, would you like to reconsider that statement ? The article and the refugees quoted in it acknowledge that the journey itself remains very dangerous. The point being made is that it's easier for them to claim asylum here provided they arrive safely and that Britain now ironically has less "control of its borders".

So Johnson's genius decision to stick his letter to Macron on Twitter has resulted in them cancelling talks with the appalling Priti Patel. This is what happens when you appoint a tabloid PM - nobody wants to work with you and nothing gets done.
Not sure why we should expect France to help us anyway. We're the ones who basically sent out a message that we think we're better than the rest of Europe and can look after ourselves.
