We do miss him. As frustrating as he was he was capable of winning games, something we could desperately do with right now.
Something we always seems to be missing at this club is someone who will just have a go, so often I'm begging for someone to have a pop when the ball drops to them at the edge of the box instead of looking for a pass.
Rooney could pass too, again something we are missing today.
Okay a lot of his shots went wide and his passes astray but if he made every single one he wouldn't be playing at this level but at least he'd have a crack or look for that pass.

Agree that Rooney is a big miss whether you love him or hate him. We've got nobody of his pedigree or McConville's. Just shows how much less of a status we are as a club.

Durrell was a similar player to Rooney I thought. Frustrating but capable of scoring out of nothing at all.

Personally, I thought Durrell was an upgrade on Rooney. The incredibly frustrating thing with Rooney was that he was good from free kick set-pieces, yet absolutely garbage at corners! The amount of times he hit the first man was amazing.

The amount of times he hit the first man was amazing. I always thought Ryan Lloyd’s corners were pretty good. Dawson’s are getting good as well. |

It's crazy really looking at the six players we released as soon as last season finished, three are now featuring for better teams (Durrell, Hunt and Richards). Then there's loan players like Lloyd who we didn't seem too interested in but now seemingly doing well at Macc, similarly Vassell at Gateshead. Meanwhile we offered contracts to the likes of Chapell and Davies who are being shipped out to the likes of Stalybridge and Leek, even though we're short of players! Terrible really. Managing Chester is a tough job but it's hard to stress enough what a poor job McCarthy did in his last 8 to 9 months. |

He was a good player, shame it ended as it did.
He consistently got goals from midfield, we'd kill for that now. Those players always split opinion, but I think he had a bit of quality about him that we sorely miss now.

He wasted an awful lot of possession, but he never seemed to be dropped even when he was dreadful. |
