talking of hosepipes i can think of an occasion at the old ground when we had an injury crisis we had a match scheduled
i was friendly with the promotions manager(no name given) and was down at the ground at about midday on the day of the game
it was a wet morning but the pitch was playable
on the instructions of the team manager the groundsman was told to get the hosepipes out for a couple of hours before the referee arrived at 100pm to inspect
the referee arrived early at 1215pm and there was a mass panic to keep him from the pitch area until the hosepipes were disposed of
the game went ahead but dont remember the score
