We could've done with an extra striker and all. Chance rued.

This is where JM's recruitment ability comes into question. Similar to last summer when more or less the whole squad that disappointed so much was offered contracts. Obviously it turned out largely alright (two or three players aside - Chappell, George) but still.
You could argue that we may not have been able to afford any new signings - then I would argue what was the point of having trialists in? The fact he's gone to an FL team, when he could've provided us with some much needed natural width and a bit of competition in attacking areas is frustrating. Instead, we go back to the same names (O'Brien) except we don't play them.

There is no way we could compete with wages from the football league. Especially when the playing budget has been spent on the current squad.

This is the problem we will always face with our budget.
Enough for either a reasonable but very small squad (as we have now) or a larger weaker squad. Not much McCarthy can do really. Sadly I think this means we can't get close to going up unless financial fair play is brought in to this league.

Ah, the budget. It's to blame! It's the budget's fault that Richards couldn't get his shot on target in the dying seconds of Saturday's game. Sack the budget I say.

I went to the Liverpool game and Sousa tore Terrence Trent-Darby apart that day. He did however look below the fitness and strength required for the conference. Granted that can be developed but we already have marsh on the books who falls into this catorgry. Time will tell, but we've possibly missed out on this one.

I don't think it's him, the lad we had on trial was Erike Sousa from Prestwich Heys.

I don't think it's him, the lad we had on trial was Erike Sousa from Prestwich Heys. I hadn't read the article but have now and yes it doesn't look like the lad who played in the trial game. I was led to believe he was playing for Hyde.

I don't think it's him, the lad we had on trial was Erike Sousa from Prestwich Heys. So it is. But still Macca could have had another look at him.

It is the same player, surely? How many Portuguese 21-year old left wingers called Erico Sousa are there in the English football system? Come on.

That's clearly the sort of spelling discrepancy you tend to get in the English media when it comes to obscure foreign trialists. It's the same person.

Yep, and Hyde are listed as a former club of Accrington's new signing. Same person.

Guy hasn't had a game yet due to complicated registration problems apparently.

Guy hasn't had a game yet due to complicated registration problems apparently. Will be his name misspelt and not matching his passport. Perhaps his passport says Eric and immigration think there's 3 of them 😳

The Old Yazoo album I have at home Upstairs at Ericos must be worth an absolute fortune as a mispressed copy, either that or I bought it at a dodgy Turkish market.

Good find! Was under the same illusions as others it may be the same bloke. Wonder where Erike is playing his football now? Looks like he is still listed as a player on Prestwich Heys but not appeared since September.
