With the prospect of playing in the National League North next season a possibility I thought I would look at who we could be playing and noticed that there are 6 ex league clubs plying their trade in that division which led me to look at the National League South where there are no ex league clubs which got me thinking as to why this would be. Is it because geographically there are more teams in the North or do the Southern teams cope better any thoughts

I'm not sure that all those clubs count. Stockport, York and Southport probably do. Darlington were almost certainly a new entity and BPA were out of business for 13 years before reformed, so can't be thought of as ex-league. Who is the 6th?

since the south got 2 feeder leagues the northern teams have suffered, which is a shame as on the whole they are better supported.
To be fair though, football is not about the fans.

Boston are another. I think Gainsborough were in the Football League more than 100 years ago too.

On a slight tangeant, supposing everything goes tits up between now and the end of season and we finish in the bottom four (highly likely) and Torquay put in a decent run with Barrow relegated with ourselves, Solihull and Guiseley. This would be f***ing disastrous for us as we would then find ourselves in the Southern section along with Solihull with; Barrow and Guiseley playing in the Northern section!!

It doesn’t work like that, they would move one of the other clubs in the league who are geographically further south. In both the last couple of years I think three clubs have gone down to the northern section.

No we wouldn't end up in the south league. Someone would be moved from the north to the south instead (whoever was most southern based in the north I assume) I dont know who that would be, maybe Brackley or Leamington this season?

MOC/ZB . . . if that’s the case then at least it’s some good news.

Lest we forget the utter strangeness of going to Bishop Stortford (past turn-offs for the likes of Barnet on the M25) for a regional northern game.

There are presently several sides in the north that are midlands based Telford, leamington, brackley, Nuneaton, Tamworth, Boston is hardly in the north. With the likelihood of Solihull Moors as well.
