Article in the local York newspaper today. Must be serious if it's going to Crown Court. 6 fans from Chester in all - named in the article as well... I was at that match and although there was no hassle at the ground - a small contingent of our fans behaved like morons shouting abuse when walking to the ground accompanied by the police. Didn't reflect well on the club with local residents watching on. On a smaller note - lazy journo's still call us Chester City. www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/15822990.Ten_in_court_after_York_city_centre_brawl/

hope the chester 6 dont end up with banning orders, 6 less on ever dwindling home crowds is not good news, once again a bit of banter between 2 good humoured sets of fans gets publicised beyond belief when the total disorder and violence after a chester races meeting is swept under the carpet,,, we'll have no fans after wrexham in march

Those lads aren't hooligans. Ridiculous they've been taken to crown court.

I just don't get it. At least most of the local ones are pretty young. Anyone in their 40s and 50s getting involved in football hooliganism really needs to look hard at themselves.

As has been said, no "fans" about it.
They are fans, more so than most on here, and don't forget that they haven't been found guilty yet.

The fact that one has admitted it by pleading guilty won't help their cause. Affray always has to be dealt with at crown court, it dosen't mean they are destined for Jail. I know a few who have been on similar charges who have been given community orders.

As has been said - let's see if they're found guilty (apart from the one who is not contesting the charges) but if people are trying to excuse bad behaviour because they're proper fans that go to every game then I don't buy it. You can be a loyal fan without scrapping in the centre of a city with families walking by. The hotel concerned have CCTV showing the very beer garden where the violence occurred so you can be sure the rozzers will have studied it before bringing charges.
You can be a fan without walking down the street chanting mindless rubbish and abusing passers by - I saw this personally in York as I was walking up Bootham. A cretin is a cretin regardless if they go every week or once a month.

You could argue they're not "better fans" than others though if they're going to behave in a way that brings the club into disrepute. I don't know anything about this incident so not talking about these individuals in particular, but general troublemakers as there always seem to be people like you who are straight on here excusing them. They may go home and away but maybe some people need to question why they do it - is it just for a 'day out'? If you actually care about the club and have pride in supporting Chester, it's hard to understand why you'd want to drag the club's name through the mud.

You make it sound like they go to matches to cause trouble. If any of the fans mentioned in the article had the attitude you describe, they'd be in trouble every week. I'm not sure any of them have been in trouble before in countless years following Chester every weekend? Certainly most of them haven't.

Not sure what the point of this thread is, what is there to debate? They go to court and what will be will be.

Again, apologies if I've accidentally deleted your post.
