I see that Bignot is pinpointing midfield re the Trophy defeat. Saying they didn't "earn the right to play" and got over-run in the first half. Spot on and quite alarming that we got outplayed and outfought in that area by a lower league side. Thought Shaw and Turnbull were very poor and Dawson never got going...so where do we go now? Any thoughts on midfield for the rest of the season? Worryingly we could be pinning our hopes on Roberts unless someone else comes in, or we give Kingsley a go in a more central role (although fear he won't offer much more). I've reached the conclusion that Dawson, despite flashes, isn't the answer. I don't think we got a single free kick anywhere near their box on Saturday which is maybe an indication of how little of a goal threat we offer. We seem to be relying largely on opposition mistakes. I'm not Mahon's biggest fan but I think he's worth a punt for the games against Gateshead and Hartlepool. Realistically 4 points needed from those 2.

Got to play Turnbull for me, probably with James and Roberts when eligible. White and Hannah up top, give Aki a rest and maybe bring Mahon into the fold right forward, Hannah left and white through middle.

Unless we hear different RHJ is no longer Chester player.
I’d go with this against Gateshead, then see how it goes for setting up the following Tuesday against Hartlepool.
Hornby Halls Jones Astles Gough Akintunde Shaw Turnbull Mahon White Hannah
Halls at right back. I know...who else could play there? He’s played well away from right back recently. Shaw loves a big match and with a bit of momentum he thrives, chasing lose balls and all that.

It's like choosing which sexually transmitted disease you'd like to die of. James has been the one pulled from pillar to post so maybe give him a go. Ask Shaw and turn bull if the weather is to their liking that day. And remove Dawson completely. His confidence is shot and he's tackling like a 10 year old at the moment. I'll draft up a written apology to Roberts and stick him in there. For all his problems, and I loathe somebody getting 300 chances in life, I think he showed more in that one tackle than some of these numpties have shown in one or two seasons.

The midfield has been poor all season which in turn has highlighted issues regarding the lack of width upfront. In Roberts we have a ready made playmaker but not for the next 3 games. I believe we need a good experienced, seasoned loanee for the next month whilst controversial what about John Rooney? not played for last 6 games, contract up at the end of season so needs to impress.

Why not? We're selling our soul on a daily basis we might as well go the full tilt. And he's always good for a derby goal.

Also don't think we can play all three of Akintunde, Hannah and White. For me it's White and Akintunde with Mahon on the right in the role Aki played on Saturday, with Hannah on the bench. We are two players short ...a central midfielder and a right back. Asssume the rumour about Halls going to Macc was wrong.

With his pace is it worth trying Jones at Right Back and Halls Centre Half as hes played well there for a few games?

As I say, or make reference to, it’s not ideal in the slightest so I’ve put the up for debate who the alternative may be at right back. Sounds like James didn’t enjoy his time there at ET. Maybe a left back at right back? LRT? Not ideal as I say. As for Akintunde - he’s quick, a good dribbler and direct on his day. He also struggles in front of goal. We need some pace out wide and he could do just that. With Mahon on the other wing it’s a very attacking line up but does show we’re going for it and would hopefully prevent the usual 8 behind the ball at home.

Where is Joyce these days? Give him a go at right back maybe 🤔 if he still here... played right back at Lincoln away last season didn’t he?

With this lot, only 6 behind the ball is a worry. 😳
The passing at East Thurrock was appalling, with the exception of Roberts little cameo. Their confidence is shot. Having said that I don’t think we’re going to get out of this mess by grinding out fortunate away wins or plucky draws. We need points at home.
Go for the jugular and hope we don’t concede early.
If we can get a goal ahead at home, or for that matter just score at home then it would give the crowd something to shout for get behind the players.
I would play
Hornby Halls Jones Astles Gough Turnbull Shaw James Akintunde White Mahon
In a 4-3-3 diamond with Dawson and Hannah to replace James and Mahon in second half. NRT, Lynch and Crawford there also.
Formation won’t matter a jot if heads drop after we concede first.
And we need to press the opposition and have some energy levels.
Get the ball out wide......
