Bit quiet on here today - the calm before the storm? Found this on the Chronicle website this morning - think it's worth a look. www.chesterchronicle.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/national-league-clubs-warned-relegated-14164838Seems having a 3G pitch may be a bit of a barrier to promotion to the EFL I know that this subject generated a lot of views when last raised but as far as I'm aware it's still an option for us albeit not exactly top priority at the moment. I also accept that promotion is very much a dream for us right now but, if we do go down this track, we need to be aware of the potential ramifications

The grass at the Deva has historically been excellent. When we have nothing else of which to boast, at least we have been able to boast one of the best quality pitches in Non-League that puts many football league clubs to shame.
Looked a little muddy last time I was at the Deva but there's always off days.
Grass pitch forever please. No artificial rubbish at the Deva.

Wasn't the whole talk of us getting a 3G pitch just a story that was misinterpreted by some? I thought it was just a 3G training pitch that was being considered.

If the EFL do vote to accept synthetic pitches at their meeting in July, it will be interesting to see what take up there is by clubs in the EFL and below. Sadly think it is inevitable as already accepted by both UEFA and FIFA as already experienced by UK national teams playing abroad I seem to remember. Perhaps it should be a case for us to be prepared and fully understand any benefits for us, if there are any, in the eventuality that they are accepted.

In times of increasing environmental awareness, it would surely be pretty regressive to turf up a load of natural pitches and replace them with synthetic surfaces that release rubber and plastic particles into the air.
Not for me. Football is an outdoor sport played on grass.

Regarding 3g/4g pitches it is only a matter of time before the efl accept them

I presume the main reason clubs are tempted by 3g is because it's easier to maintain and more weatherproof, but in the Premier League, games are all played on grass and are very rarely called off due to waterlogged or frozen pitches. I presume this is because they have better facilities.
Therefore, rather than spending money on building an artificial pitch, wouldn't it be better for clubs to invest in, for example, undersoil heating, pitch covers, more ground staff etc? And if the FL and Premier League don't want 3g pitches, maybe they could help smaller clubs out with the cost of improving the condition of their grass pitches?

It's a big income stream for many small clubs, as once they have an artificial pitch they can rent it out all day every day without worrying about it getting churned up before Saturday's game.
